Lexington police officer killed in hit-and-run |
RE: Lexington police officer killed in hit-and-run
Reading the Herald article on how the family is apologizing - and crying about how the guy was mentally ill - OK, SO WHY DIDN'T YOU GET AN MIW AND GET HIM COMMITTED? It's too late to cry now, and it is obvious the family knew he had issues - but chose not to address them.

RE: Lexington police officer killed in hit-and-run
It's not that simple in Kentucky to have someone with a permanent mental illness put in a a medical facility. They normally end up in prison or on the street because the system doesn't have the money or bed space available to keep someone more than a few days. If you think jails are overcrowded and you can't keep criminals off the streets because of it, that's nothing compared to the situation with Kentucky's public mental health facilities. The root of the problem is that the people of Kentucky are more interested in keeping taxes low than having effective public services of any kind and it shows. You get what you pay for in life.
