I think you're missing the point of his comment. I believe his point was that an officer wig 20 years on should know better than to point a taser at him, the officer. I've seen a ton of stuff done by senior officers that is just plain unsafe. 20 years on does not equate tactical genius.

The second half of the story...

The suspect had intentionally cut himself severely but still had the knife in his pocket. We had to secure him in order to get the knife. He went unconscious about 2 minutes later due to loss of blood and ended up in room 9. Now, just imagine if our 20 year vet had tased him and he ended up dying because of his knife wound. We all would have been off for months, and the department would have had a sizable lawsuit. On a side note, there was another officer helping me double cuff the suspect since he was so big. There is no angle to shoot a taser between 2 officers double cuffing a suspect. Keep the thing in your holster and get ready to go hands on with a bloody person. You signed up for this job, sometimes it's not all pretty.

Yeah, for real. I don't care how many years you got on. If the red dot is on a brother in blue, either aim somewhere else or put it away. Don't none of us want to take the ride.
