Mayoral candidate, Police Chief debate LMPD's leadership approach |
RE: Mayoral candidate, Police Chief debate LMPD's leadership...
The problem is, if you don't "play politics," you aren't even on the playground. This IS politics, folks, and the only way to survive long term is to simply tell the truth. Lay out the facts and let people see them. I regularly ask people, how many officers do you think on patrolling in your division - and make sure they understand the boundaries of their own division. They usually guess 20 or 30, and are shocked when I tell them it is under 10 as a rule. That's the kind of information that our council members should get every day, just start sending them the daily lineup on random days. They may know the total number of officers, they don't know how many are actually ON THE STREET at any given time.
And guess what, that is what organizations do, put their chosen candidate in a positive light. (I'd prefer that to trying to put everyone else in a negative light.) Failing to support a candidate actively is by default, supporting the person in the lead, and that appears to be King, right now. I see this every election, everyone pussyfoots around and doesn't get organized. The FOPs (collectively) have a lot of power and influence, and I've already heard people tell me that the FOP is supporting King, because they saw James standing with him - not realizing that James isn't even a member of LMPD anymore!
- I know alot of former LPD think James is... 14 years ago
