"The only reason we are having the on duty/off duty debate is the

pending lawsuits. Why is this? ATTORNEYS and JUDGES. We as a society

have allowed attorneys to sue anyone for any reason and any amount, and

we have no judges that will hold them in check. If the striking car

would have been driven by 'joe shmuckitelli' it wouldn't even be an

issue."

Not entirely true, it is a fact that lawyers see the city as a bottomless pit of money from which to extort through lawsuits, but it would still be an issue if it had been any member of a company that was viewed as a "moneybags" target. It has less to do with it being a cop, and everything to do with the lawsuit being likely settled for large sums.

It is also true that if it had been a private citizen, or even a cop in his own car, there wouldnt be as much of a headline about it.

Its hardlyjust an accident when it results as a direct and intentional action or carelessness. It isnt an accident if you fire a gun in the air and someone gets hit.

"Driving habits - While not on a run, officers do obey the traffic devices and speed limits."

what a bunch of bull$hit, do you REALLY believe that, especially when so many officers have admitted to NOT obeying them, excusing it as a perk?

"If it were your family - Would you want the Police to hurry, or just get there when they get there?"

I like to ask myself "If it were my family, would they get a police escort and closed roads to the hospital?" Then I realize that none of my family are cops, or paramedics who stab themselves, so the answer is likely NO!!!!
