Jeffersonville mayor seeks officer who leaked pictures of attorney...

June 22nd, 2009 @ 1:53AM (15 years ago)

Typical, typical, typical...... If that had been a Police officer in that trash can and the photo had been released to the media, you would have only heard about how poor of a choice that officer made, and how embarrassed the city was. The fact that it was a dirtbag attorney makes it all different. Now the person who released the photo was wrong for taking it, and releasing it?!? Last time I checked, there was no law against taking a photo of someone in public, because you have no reasonable expectation of privacy! That photo, once taken, became the property of the person who took it to do with whatever the hell he or she wanted to. Just like the paparazzi do in every gossip paper in the world. Hell, just like the main stream media does whenever they can put something on the news that will embarrass or ruine someone of note. I hope that their union leaders fight for that officer under his first amendment rights! Police officers are protected by the same laws as everyone else. That seems to be forgotten more and more these days. We need to stand up fight for our damn rights and quit bending over and taking it where the sun doesn't shine!

To the Jeffersonville Mayor:

1. Despite your claim to all the world on your precious news outlets...being drunk in public IS a crime. A crime which those oh-so-evil officers had the option of charging your pious attorney but didn't. They used discretion on his behalf.

2. The pictures taken could have been used as evidence against your attorney in court had he been charged, and then they would have been public record anyway. As someone above already wisely stated, if the attorney didn't want to open himself to having his picture taken, perhaps he shouldn't have gotten so drunk that he climbed into a garbage can and passed out thereby alarming his neighbors.

3. You said on the news that you had not even spoken with the attorney in question. Had you done your homework, maybe he would have told you that he has taken full responsibility for his actions and even apologized on television.

4. Members of the Metro Council have said the attorney's actions brought embarrassment to them/him. They mentioned nothing about the officers who were called to the scene to do a job.

Mr. Mayor, grow a pair, and place blame where it should be placed. If you are embarrassed, it's because of the actions of your Council's attorney, not because of the Jeffersonville Police Officers who did their jobs.

Funny how a city atty ends up drunk sleeping in a garbage can (maybe he feels at home there) and the big story is of some cop who took a picture of it. They need to worry more about their drunk city employees embarrassing the city and not of a cop taking a picture of something that is in public view. What is pathetic is what the atty did not the cop, why is that idiot balless mayor making apologies for the picture, do something about your lush atty.

Boy...oh Chase Cain should be a detective. What a great piece of reporting!!! Lets not focus on the drunk attorney in a freakin' garbage can passed out.....nope we have to worry that a big bad police officer who took a picture of it. Didn't he know he was suppose to just cover it up like most attorney and politicians expect. Bad police officer...how dare you take that picture in a public place...That big bad police officer probably made the attorney get drunk and placed him in the garbage can. It must be a set up...I don't know ANY attorneys or politicians who behave in that manner!!!

Just a question, if this had been a cop found sleeping in a trash can drunk, would the pictures have hit the media as quickly, if at all?

In most of the comments I have heard from Wilder he appologizes for his actions. Thats cool. The problem is that he doesn't work for himself or some private law firm. He works for the city of Jeff. He must face some type of discipline. Unfortunately the focus is on the Officer leaking the photos to the media. WTF??? Jeff Police Dept. has no written policy about doing this, so no harm no foul. Had the Officer violated a policy it would have been different.

WIll they institute a new polcy? Undoubtably. Will Wilder and any of his friends who have yet to be mentioned face any penalties? I doubt it. Remember, Wilder was a fool and got drunk. He was with his friends in a limo. Was this city sponsored? Was the dinner and drinks paid for by our tax dollars? Who was with him? Whoever was there that night when they dropped Wilder off should have walked him/ carried him to the house. Instead they thought it would be funny to put him in a garbage can.

Wilder claims he can't remember what happened. It is funny, but I believe him. Who are they and why aren't they being investigated for wanton endangerment? Obviously Wilder was in no shape to take care of himself. I guess he ought to count himdelf fortunate that they didn't drop him off down at the Falls of the Ohio State Park. He would have woken up with his pants down around his ankles :0

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Wilder screwed up and put himself in that position of being so intoxicated that he wound up being put into the garbage can. I think before I start blaming other people Mr. Mayor I would liik into the actions of your attorney that night and who he was with before jumping the gun and deciding that what the Officer did is the real crime.

Damn...what a waste! Somebody threw a perfectly good attorney away in a trash bin. Don't they realize he should have been in the recycle bin?

I am a cop, not a politician and yes we took an oath to serve and protect but, the attorney made a fool of himself and his office and no one but him embarrassed his children! The fool got less than he deserved but more than bagained for when he began drinkng. Of course listening to the mayor it is obvious that nothing will happen to this idiot what a surprise a politician getting away with something... It seems he is more interested in exposing the rampant problems with an Officer exposing one of his cronies caught behaving like a fool. What a great bunch of friends he had that left him in a trash can by his house. I would bet they were attorneys also.

Hindsight being 20/20 they should have just locked the scmuck up and taken "evidence" photos, which would have become public record. The Mayor of Jeffersonville should commend the Officers for bringing this problem to light instead of condeming them. The Officers didn't embarass his family. His drunken debauchery did.

Any citizen can take photos of Officers alleged wrongdoing but when an Officer takes photos of a politician smashed out of his gourd, passed out in a garbage can then they are now the bad guys? What a sad state of affairs when we condone the drunken behavior of a City Attorney and twist the story around to make the guys that took the pictures as being wrong for doing so.

How embarressed would Mr. Wilder have been if his kids had come out their front door and seen "Daddy" in all his glory in the dust bin? Give me a break Mr. Mayor! Your hand picked tool screwed up and your statement should have been more about his actions and what you intend to do about it instead of what you have said.

How many other politicians or attorneys were with him that night? Are you covering somethng up? If I were Wilder I would ask for forgivness for my behavior and engaging in the conduct that led to this fiasco. I would thank the Officers for having enough compassion not to arrest me and lastly I would check into rehab for my obvious drinking problem.

The only problem here is that the job wasn't finished. Someone took out the trash, but those turkeys at Rumpke forgot to pick it up!! The amazing this is only one with any sense here is the one who was in the trash can: Wilder knows he screwed up, took responsibility, is appreciative to the officers for not locking his butt up, and apologized to all. J-ville's screwy mayor must be getting pointers from Jerry - everything is the cops fault.

By the way, is Cordish being contracted in Jeffersonville now?

Larry Wilder resigns two public posts

June 24th, 2009 @ 5:35PM (15 years ago)

Just read on WDRB's website (FOX41 dot com) that Wilder has decided to remove himself from both the Jeffersonville job and the Clark County School Board job.

Furthermore, he doesn't "have any animosity " toward the officers involved.

Sounds like this should definately be case-closed.
