Of course, he was correct in stating that there was a higher "fatality rate" for the truckers. The stats for 1995 given indicate an employment level (in thousands) of 2,861 truckdrives. The employment level for police/detectives/supervisors was (in thousands) 1,051. There were 749 deaths of truckdrivers that year, with 68% of those from vehicle accidents.
