The pattern of behavior still exists today, as evidenced by the incident in Birmingham Al, and even here in the derby infield video. The "shoot first" mentality in which officers either do not educate themselves fully about the situation first, or where officers take it upon themselves to "teach" a suspect a lesson through a "tune-up" is a problem. I dont have one iota of pity for the victim in Birmingham, but the actions of the cops there are unacceptable.

When a cop is allowed to decide who he "feels" deserves a beating, then that puts too much power into that cops decision making abilities. Take me for example, as has been stated by several people, I deserve a beating from cops for having an opinion, like it or not. That mentality is simply, undeniably, and obviously, a problem.

It isnt the criminals getting mistreated that is the issue, its what happens when the cops are wrong about who they "decide" deserves the mistreatment.
