It's called solidarity. And I know it is tough for some people to understand, but it is called COLLECTIVE action. If you don't act collectively on such important matters (meaning matters that involve your pocket), then you might as well just disband the FOP or turn it into a social club. It's purpose is meaningless if you don't act collectively.
The mayor is simply counting on enough officers wimping out and paying for the cars (and still doing the off-duty work and not making them pay OT) that he can say - see - they don't mind.
I just don't want to hear the complaining when they jack it up AGAIN after July 1.
