Officers given 7 days to decide on take home cars

Thank you for the time of researching this. I've got 111,000 plus on my cruiser.

This is a point that I've been hoping would be brought up by our leadership. The mayor and chief are contuinually making the comments that civilian employees have been forced to give up the salary of four furlogh days and that everyone in city government needs "skin in the game". I realize that this is a costly sacrifice for all involved but not once has it been mentioned that the four furlough days is a one time deal and that the increased rate for officers to take thier vehicles home is each and every month for every year until you decide to leave the department.

$100 a month to drive a car that you don't have to pay for gas or maintenance on seems like a pretty good deal to me. Depending on who you believe, insurance may or may not be covered by the city, so I can't comment on that aspect.

I think the real issue is not the amount but that it is imposed on us without negotiation or a term limit. The Chief can raise it every month, get some quick cash and in the end we will have to park the cars due to the high cost-which is what they may want anyway. When we voted on our contract we knew coming out of it what we would make, budgeted our bills and planned for the next year-then we got hit with the first fee. Remember, this is money from our take-home pay for a benefit/privelege we already had. Then when we adjusted they threatened to raise it to $210. To the citizens that say this is a reasonable price for a car-What would you do if your company took away $160.00 a month from your take home pay and gave you nothing more than what you already had last year? There has to be something in place so officers can plan for each month without the fear of another increase at the Chief's whim.
