Not attending the awards banquet does absolutely nothing to diminish the bravery and sacrifices that some officers took to earn an award. I've been on 16 years, merit awards, life saving awards, valor awards. Not once have I ever been to an awards banquet. I've always let them send me that stuff in the district mail. (I don't wear any of that crap on my uniform anyway)Not once have I ever felt unrecognized or unappreciated. As a matter-o-fact, if you need to be handed the award by some political phony that could give a sh!t less whether you rushed into a blazing gun fight or handed a fan out to a senior citizen to feel validated then you might have issues with self esteem. I have no intention on attending to break bread and glad hand that limp wristed chief to receive some type of recognition. And the comment that he is limp wristed is no comment on sexual orientation. Have you ever shook his hand? It's like a wet dish rag! Absolutely no emotion or sincerity what so ever. So by all means, you go ahead and attend. But I however, will not. And I think it would be a perfect time to get our point across with the media attention that gets focused on the award ceremony if no one showed up.

You officers sound more silly everyday. For gods sake take a stand. If your officers would just have the balls to be an officer without that car your whole situation in the future would be so much better. As a retired officer and all the retired officers I have talked to, we are all betting the majority of officers will keep the cars and pay the fees. Officers before your time stood together and that's how we got the benifits that you are gradually losing. The hell with the cars you better start worrying about your retirements. For those of you that don't look at your future retirement, you better. you may be able to retire with a 20 and some a 25 year pension but you better look at your health insurance. I think you"ll be shocked to see that for some of you, 20 and 25 years is only a dream and there is no way you will be able to afford the insurance cost and I talking todays rates. If you don't believe me then investigate it yourself. Call Kentucky Retirement Systems. Fight for benifits not those stupid cars.
