Precisely. And they aren't "wanting us to pay" - we ARE paying, at least 30, if not 60. (The injunction only dealt with the most recent increase.) And by law, we could have been requesting it all along, but it was understood that was the tradeoff for the cars. Since we are now being expected to pay for the cars, they can pay (and are required to do so) for the offduty stops we are required to make. That's the one thing that we have in our favor, the policy requires us to work when we aren't on duty, and the law says they have to pay us for doing it.
In fact, I'm told, if you can document it, you can go back at least a year and claim it, also. But the better course would probably be to start now, document (by calling off) every time you do something under the badge, and put in for it. When it is denied, grieve it. Then take it to state wage and hour.
