I'd like to see the actual request. If you put it in writing, specific, in the form of an Open Records request, they cannot deny it. (Well, they can, but you can then appeal it to the Attorney General's Office, and they MUST rule within, I think, 20 days.) The city has no obligation to respond to a request that isn't specific and in writing.

I don't know if asking for "the books" is the best route, better to identify very specific areas and request all documents related to those areas. Use the CAPR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) - the one for 2007-08 year must be released within the next week - and identify specific areas of interest.

I cannot post a link, but if you go to the city's website, and go to Finance, you'll find the document I'm talking about. They post them back for several years.
