Judge rules in FOP's favor. City cannot charge more for cars.

Ahahahahahaha Merry Christmas Jerry! How does that size 12 feel?

Okay gentle-persons, this now gives everyone time to go buy that used case. No one has any remaining excuse to not have a p-car by March 1... We need to be prepared for what this vindictive administration is going to respond with... As our FOP president said, the ball is now back in the mayor's court, so let's not be foolish enough to think he/they (Mayor, Chief and Troy Riggs) won't respond quickly.

As a reminder, when you are off-duty... DON'T SPEED, use your signals, etc... STOP for anything and everything. Make it visible. In short take away the ammo that will be used against us.

THINK about were you are at before firing your thoughts out. The roll-call room ain't the best spot.

Chard Carlton, after removing his head from the Mayor's lap, commented with, "WTF??? The judge said what???? Hmmmm, we will have to get back to you on this one."

Perhaps were not the only ones that believe the FOP has an arguement? Jerry, I'll help you bail the citizens of the city out, but keep it equitable. Why dont you impose a one-time $25.00 per household tax increase on each household in Jefferson County, maybe ask you friends and business partners to contribute a bit more? I'll even take furlough days like every other targeted metro employee has to take-as long as the police are not treated unfairly. Merry Christmas to all fire, dispatch, EMS, and police personnel. It is a great honor to work with you nightly as WE ALL keep our community safe and have each other's back. Amen!

Merry Christmas Uncle Scrooge! I hope you have a very happy holidays because for whatever reason you needed some quick cash you aren't getting it from us.

I would like to thak all the other Metro Employees that have stood up to this tyrant during this made up crisis of his. I would especially like to thank some guys that often get overlooked. That is our fleet service mechanics.

They keep are cars running and without them the fleet would grind to a halt. Marvin Smith you are the Bomb! I think that it is guys like you that make a difference in the way this city continues to run.

It isn't the whining little weasels like Carton and Riggs who only want to blame other people when things don't go their way.

I hope the public realizes WE are not trying to help out the supposed short fall. I think 60 bucks was ok considering how high gas prices soared. Once the prices came down I did not see the Mayor or Chiefs Staff taking away the fee for high gas prices. I was told the reason the gas fee did not go away is because the FOP filed a law suit. In my opinion even with a law suit the current gas fees could have gone away. Now we have to pay it because the city may be short of money. We have asked numerous times to see the books and keep getting told no. We are also told that a budget summary is available on line. Thats all it is... A SUMMARY! Show us the books...let us contribute as much as everyone else...We all know that as soon as the new 35 million dollar short fall comes out we will pay more for the cars which are a privilege! It is not my privilege to give the city hundreds of hours of FREE OT because I stop to help out on my off time. That is where the cars pay for themselves. Ask any division major how much FREE help they get every week! They probably cannot tell you because there are too many hours to count.

To Joe Citizen...listen to what the Mayors Lawyer said in court. "The city needs this revenue to make it through next year" REVENUE!!!! This is not savings. They are making money on us. The Chief already cut out all OT so there is your savings! We are being forced to pay to take a car home so our neighborhoods are safer and we can stop for that stranded motorist that has waited over an hour for an on duty car to come by. I love being able to stop and help while I am off but I don't think I want to keep paying for that "privilege" Sorry.

The mayor will probably now find another way to get us back just like he did to the firemen. He took their state incentive money away because he owes them millions for a pay mistake he could have fixed years ago! Firemen bring home @ 150 dollars less on each pay check thanks to the mayor. The police are next! Please support us in this fight because we will ALL lose if the mayor wins.

TWAS THE NITE

December 24th, 2008 @ 6:47PM (16 years ago)

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the city

Not a squad car was stirring, except those on duty.

The cars were all parked even though we still care,

In hopes that by morning the fee would not be there.

The citizens were nestled all snug in their beds,

While the police risked getting shot in their heads.

And Jerry in his ?kerchief, and Bob in his cap,

It would be better if they had a salary cap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

Call 9-1-1 to see what's the matter.

Away to the window there was a big crash,

A burglar tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a dark dressed scum-bag in hoodie drawing near.

With a little screw driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment my chest he might stick.

More rapid than eagles his cronies they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Pookie! now, Wet Nads! now, Lil T and Ray Ray!

Come on, grab the stuff 5.0's on the way!

Grab the grill on the porch! the big screen on the wall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

They fled with no care of choppers in the sky.

So to next house-top the criminals they drew,

Knowing the cars on the street were numbered to few.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard coming fast.

The police were coming, coming to catch your a$$

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down went the scum-bags they had been found.

He was dressed in a ball cap no uniform he wore.

His first question to all why so many police on shift for?

He says he's with us but another stab in our back,

Why is it us he always attacks.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose all up Jerry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

We thought he was friend, no friend of Velcro.

The lump of my 30/60 he held tight in his teeth,

And if he gets more he thought that would be neat.

He had a grim face and best friends with Jerry,

These guys are in charge man is that scary!

We were getting bent over and who was to help,

And I laughed and knew I can't do this myself!

A blink of an eye a thought to my head,

FOP filed an injuction. I had nothing to dread.

They spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And started showin the Ville Jerry's a jerk.

And laying off his employees, giving them the hose,

And uniting the unions a rebellion arose!

He sprang to his media, to give them a speech,

But now a new thought came can a Mayor we impeach.

But I heard him exclaim, ?ere he drove out of sight,

"They won't stick together and I'll win this here fight"

This is good news, but this battle is far from over. This injunction only prevents the rates of your LEASED police car from being increased until the case is heard and decided on. We could still lose this and be forced to park the cars in the end - so be ready for that dark day, should it occur. Kudos to Judge Perry for being fair and making the correct decision. (I thank him, but now fear for his life).

The poem was hilarious, by the way.

I think this is a bigger victory than you realize. Before he became Judge, Mitch Perry was a county attorney who was mayor Jerry's chief union buster. Mitch carried out his marching orders from the mayor but he was clearly at odds with the way Jerry handled things and he knew it was wrong.

For Mitch to stand up to this mayor and the democratic party machine and render this decision is a strong statement that he believes the FOP is going to win this one.

Maybe Humana can chip in and help King Jerry out. After all, he served them up a monopoly on the city employees............................Or how about we put advertisements for Jerry's buddies on the cars and make up the supposed budget shortfalls with advertising. Cordish Po-Po, Humana law man, Stadium Rangers, 4th Street Marshals, Southfields Sheriffs - aka Polo Fields Pigs, Naval Ordnance Narcs, Center City Coppers. you get the point. Maybe one of Jerry's pals can sponsor each of the 8 Divisions. We can have a different paint scheme advertising a different company or pet project for each Police Division's marked cars. Even if the cars are taken home and parked in the neighborhoods - people will still see the advertisements and Jerry will be happy!!!!

It is nice to actually win one against this administration. But, like an earlier poster noted, this fight is far from over. The mayor is not going to like this one bit and will find a way to repay us in kind. Be prepared, be professional (as we all have been thus far).

I am still going to purchase my own pov because you never know what the future holds. We should all be prepared and not be dependent on the kindness or efficency of our local government.

Kelly Downard - Please run again. We need you. And thank you for staying on the City Council. Without you and a couple of others - no one would even be attempting to do what is right by the people of Louisville and their tax dollars. Make this Jerry's last term as Mayor For Life by running again and ousting this tyrant. After you are elected you can give us a chief who will stand up for his or her officers, and maybe even care about them. I know, it's a new concept.......

But he is always trying to be a good steward of the tax dollar................how about every commanding officer in homicide doesn't show up at every scene, eating up overtime..............oh yeah, they work for Riggs! I don't know if this rumor is true or not, but I recently heard that Abramson took a butt load of city money out to "invest" it in the stock market a couple of months ago and lost it all and that is why he is trying to raise some cash now.

Did the FOP ever get the complete set of books? I haven't heard anything form them about it. I still think that Abramson is covering something up that he doesn't want anyone to find out. Did the council do an open records request too? It seems a shame that they would have to do that since they are the government. One more sign of Abramson hiding something.

Mayor Abramson Fails to Respond to Open Records Request?

December 26th, 2008 @ 3:54PM (16 years ago)

What, if anything, are we doing about the lack of Mayor Abramson to comply with the Open Records Act? What recourse do we have?

Has anybody seen the story on WLKY website on the take home car program and the cars to residents ratio if we are made to turn in the cars by king jerry and his 2 court jesters (bob and troyboy the mayors toy). It's on the WLKY web site and I found it under the investigative tab on left hand side of page. It's very interesting, good job WLKY for getting the story out.

ok let me get this straight........the city lawyers wanted us ( the f.o.p.) to post a 1.6 million bond so they could recoup thier losses in case they win the challenge in feb?? lets look at that shall we.... the feb date is the 10th ..thats 40 days out..lets be generous here and just round it off to 60 days.....now lets be generous again and say that everyone is going to pay up,and lets say again that everyone pays at the off duty rate of 160 a month ......( even though we know they dont, just for the sake of argument) ...thats $320 per take home...( that covers the 2 months they are complaining about) ...multiplied by 1000 take home cars equals $ 320,000 dollars...no wonder the budget is screwed ...welcome to jerry math 101..........CAPT> AHAB.....AAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHH

two people in my division have been denied OT for motorists assists, and being stuck at the garage for 2 hours on off time for PM's. i guess they are paying to work. i understand working recks and stuff if the car was actually a privledge, but not if your paying to use it. isnt that illegal or something?

December 27th, 2008 @ 7:50AM (16 years ago)

I think everyone who does anything off duty should claim overtime - whether you think you will be payed or not. keep track and file a grievance when you are told to 'pack sand.' I have heard CO's say that if you aren't working when your garage appt's are scheduled - you need to drop it off and leave it. (so you can be paying for a car you don't have access to) Can you imagine renting a car from Budget for a month and being told that on any given 2-3 days during the month that you wouldn't be able to use the car, but still had to pay for those rental days? heck no!!!!!!!!! and on those days you do have the car, Budget wants you to run around, give other people rides, change their tires, and solve all the other customers problems. WOW. I don't need that kind of rental agreement.....

If you perform ANY off duty work (stranded motorist, wreck ,etc.) GET THE C.A.D # and put it on the overtime request. THEY CANNOT GET AWAY WITH DENYING IT. You will have the perfect grevience.

If you do not have the C.A.D # you do not have any proof therefore you will be denied. If you do not get the # it is basically your fault. You cannot expect to get paid by just simply stating you did something, because without the # that is what you are doing.

The C.A.D. # is a permanant "public" record of the time you started, what you did, and when you finished.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Abramson and cronies have been too quiet. The usual suspects are not on the news. I haven't seen Carlton, Richardson etc... Riggs has been quiet and so has White. Something is up.

Did the FOP ever get the full finacial records that they requested??? I haven't heard much from them either. Just a hint John...how about dropping everyone a note to say something like..We are working on it....etc...

Sounds like the overtime situation is going to be another court battle. Make sure everyone in the divisions is aware they neeed to keep a log. Shouldn't the FOP send out a mass email?

December 27th, 2008 @ 2:50PM (16 years ago)

Here is the way I see it for what it is worth. I think for now since the judge ruled in our favor we should not be concerned over putting in for overtime for anything we do off duty. Now that I said that, let me be clear on how I feel about paying for the cars. I personally feel that if we lose in February we should ALL park our cars immediately. Now for the ones that would still keep their cars and pay the fee, then at that time the FOP should make it very clear to the administration that any work that is done by an officer while off duty will be completely documented and each and every officer will submit an overtime slip for the work/time performed.

The FOP should make it clear to the administration that even if we win on the increase and we are told that we should still pay the $30 and $60 then we will still submit overtime request for any off duty work/time performed. Honestly, this is what we should have done months ago. The FOP should also make it very clear to all the officers that they will provide the assistance needed to file the grievance when and if the overtime is denied.

I am not going to judge ones decision on what they will do come February if we were to lose the fight. I will say this though, as one of the six officers that was just involved in the critical incident last sunday night it made me realize alot. For one we put our lives on the line each and every day when we perform our job and personally I am tired of this mayor who says public safety is his number one priority but continues to demonstrate the opposite. I am tired of not being paid the comparable wages of what other departments our size are paid and I am tired of the vehicle always being held over our heads.

To all my fellow officers, I plead with all of you to stand together once and for all and show this mayor that we are not going to take this anymore. It is time that we fight for what is rightfully ours and put a stop to this. To all of the hundreds of other first responders, fire, EMS, corrections, etc., I stand with all of you in your fight against this mayor. To all of the dispatchers and employees in MetroSafe, I must tell you all just how much I appreciate all of you for the jobs that you perform. I know you don't get the praise that you deserve but I can tell you all, you are all greatly appreciated by each and every one of us.

I have said enough for now. To ALL, have a very SAFE and Happy New Year and God Bless.

WE NEED A PR PROFESSIONAL RIGHT NOW

December 28th, 2008 @ 10:35AM (16 years ago)

Note, I didn't say a spokesperson, we need to hire someone who has a clue about PR. I'm sitting here, listening to Joe Elliott spout all sorts of nonsense about the cars, and the people calling in to talk about it are essentially inarticulate! The bus driver was our best advocate so far!

We need specific, accurate talking points - with facts, not emotions.

They truly don't understand that we COULD, and probably SHOULD, have been claiming OT for all this off-duty work they do - or at the very least keeping track of it.

DO IT NOW - go to Walgreens, get a small notebook, and keep track.

I guess Major Green has forgotten about all the OT he sucked off the city and county in his career. Showing up for everything and billing it to the city. What a TURNCOAT. Check the records you'll see he has been one of the highest paid employees ever since his days in burglary. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. We haven't forgotten about our EMS brothers and sisters and our dispatchers out there. Getting 'furloughed' is bad enough, but right before Christmas is just dirty - especially for the children expecting presents. Can anyone tell us how the 'furlough' deal is working? It would seem that in order to send one dispatcher or EMS crew home, you would have to be paying OT to another dispatcher or crew and not saving a penny. It's not like there are substitutes waiting at home for a call to come in. Sounds like another one of Jerry's 'shell games'. Somebody in the know - clue us in on this please.

I think this whole thing could have been prevented long ago if the take home cars were forced to be part of contract negotiations. In response to the injunction we received regarding the $100/$160 take home car fees, the City has filed a motion for relief and a motion to vacate the temporary injunction. There is not a date set for this, but we believe it will be early next week, possibly as early as Monday. This will be heard by the Court of Appeals.

The city says they will be losing 1.6 million. THAT IS 100% BULLSCHITTT! They are currently getting approximately $600,000 a year with the current fees. If they impose the higher fees, many will turn their cars in and pay ZERO! The city will probably only get $200,000 instead of $600,000 if the higher fees are imposed, so they will lose money. The city just wants the officers to end the take home car program so the Mayor doen't have to look like the bad guy.

He has pi$$ed off more people in the last couple months than his entire 75 years in office. With furloughs, closing parks, pools, libraries, firehouses and building arena's and Cordishville.
