Abramson's lordly ways

I do see the anger on theses posts and I understand your concern but I don't understand why you don't want us to have a (ONE) perk? I am not saying that gun slingers will be running all over town shooting up people I am just saying that people like my Mom feel much safer when they see alot of police cars around whether they are working or not. We do prevent crime from happening I am sure. I have never been in a store when they got robbed and I think that is because my car was sitting right out front. I am quite proud of my job and my uniform AND the car. I don't use it to abuse people I use it to help people. I have been doing this job for many years now and I still feel proud to say that I am a police officer (soon to retire). Please don't help to ruin what I and many others have worked so hard for........the ability to help the public. We go to work everyday with a bullitt proof (not really) vest on so aren't we worth the use of a car? We also stop and help stranded motorists, answer sometimes silly questions, answer decent questions, work wrecks, respond to robberies in progress, possible school shooters and all off duty in those cars! I am up for discussion with out turning into an angry officer because the anger jsut gets you no where. Just try to understand my side as I try to understand yours!

Mr. Bates

The reason most agencies do not have a take home program is because of the initial start up costs. After a period od 6 years they program starts showing significant return. After that it is all down hill. I cannot post a link here, but go to policefleet.com and you will see volumes of studies done on these programs.

Louisville and Jefferson County went through this in the 70's and 80's so the facts willclear,y show the monetary as well as the value of perceived presence.
