In all my life I have never seen an FOP meeting with as many members as I did that fateful day. We are united, we will turn in ours cars, and very few people will chicken out.

The word I am heraing is you will NOT have a ar assigned to you sitting in the lot waiting for you. There will be a certain number of pool cars and thats it. If you opt out you will NOT have your shiney new 2008 Crown Vic.

I agree with you in that there are a lot of big talkers, but I don't want to turn my car in and see 65% of the dept kept theirs and I am without mine and it will COST ME WAY MORE to opt out than pay 100.00. I am very willing to do so, if I knew everyone else was. We really need a vote from the FOP just like an election. How can I make an informed decision if I am not informed of the facts and circumstances.

Did you seriously just write that drivel? It's going to hurt everyone equally. Get on with it. Take a stand for once in your life for the betterment of not only your department but yourself and family. It is costing you money to take your car home. By your own admmission you already own and maintain a car that get crappy gas milage. Trade it in on another and spend your 160.00 on yourself. THE MONEY IS YOURS> NOT THEIRS>

Are you kidding? This is exactly why we have gotten screwed over for so long! You get a new car assigned to you, and are willing to PAY 4-5% of your salary to a THIEF to drive it off duty, and you gladly GIVE AWAY your free health insurance, settle for Zero and 2% raises on the contracts, etc. just to have a stupid take home car.

When I first came on, you had to have 3 years on SWORN before you could even be considered for a take home car. I had guys on my platoon closing on 5 years that didn't have a take home car. Guess what- WE SURVIVED without it!! Yes it is a nice perk, but how much are you willing to take and to put up with before you finally say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! There are plenty of off-duty jobs (if not ALL) that you don't need a marked car for. -Look at the squirrels working the water company/road jobs who ARE NOT EVEN POLICE in their personal cars with yellow/white/red flashing lights! Corrections offiocers work without a marked car everyday.

IF we do not stand together on this and PARK THE CARS, Jerry wins AGAIN.If you keep taking what he is dishing out, you will always be A VICTIM! Trade the truck in for an old Honda Civic that gets good gas mileage. Save YOUR money.

Good grief. First of all, it took me 13 years to get a new car, and I am still loving this new car smell. I have never had a new car in my personal life either. I have driven the biggest P.O.S.' on the department before and I will do it again. Not because I am a glutton for punishment, or because I enjoy sitting in filth, or driving a car that doesn't run half the time, or smelling something that I can't name for 10 hours at a time. I will do it because it's the right thing to do. I will do it because I do not like being treated like I am less than nothing. I will do it because it p*ss*s me off to see my brothers and sisters treated like they are less than nothing. I will do it because I don't respond to threats and ultimatums, and I don't back down from a fight. We are the strongest bunch of people I have ever known. We have to do what we have to do. We always watch each others' backs on runs, don't we? Why is this any different? We are here for each other. It's all or nothing. Make a stand. They can't eat us.
