Tell me the last time you stopped for an accident, stranded motorist, or assisted a citizen. Oh yeah that is what we have to do everyday while we are OFF DUTYwhen we drive the FREE cars you call them. Besides off duty lets talk about on duty. When is the last time you have been shot at, assaulted, seen horrible things happen to small children/babies, been at a wreck where body parts cannot be located for the surviving and deceased victims. Oh did I mention this happens when we are OFF DUTY,too as were are driving what you called FREE cars. Since we "abuse" the use of these vehicles according to people like you. What would you tell your child in the backseat about the person laying ejected in the middle of the X-way which was dead and in sight of your child. What would you tell them Mr. OFF DUTY specialist? Get your head out of the sand and open your eyes. Nothing about being a policeman is free. Bet you would love to see me stop in my t-shirt and shorts when you need help. Oh yeah once again I would be off duty driving a FREE car. I don't get paid overtime by stopping it is what I HAVE to do. It is my responsibility to help and protect inconsideret people like you. By the way do you where a gun and bullet resistant vest to work? Probably not. Your biggest injury would be a paper cut......but even that wouldn't happen off duty! Please be informed about statements you make and ALWAYS think before you speak, especially about something you have no idea what you are talking about...........

Are you under the impression that we do NOT pay for insurance (yes, we do, on both these cars and the personal vehicles most of us own.)

It comes down to this - if an officer CHOOSES not to take a city benefit, why is this suddenly a terrible, bad thing? I choose not to take the car, and all that goes with it, it's my CHOICE.

I'm really going to enjoy turning in my car:

1. No more taking a report for a car wreck on my own time.

2. No more getting asked for directions on my own time.

3. No more getting dressed for work on my own time, I'm doing that in the locker room after roll call.

4. No more backing up other officers on my own time, unless it's a 10-30, because I can't bring myself to ignore a 10-30.

5. No more answering my door when my neighbors want help from a police officer, on my own time.

Giving up my take home car will be a huge stress relief.
