The city is already making money off the program. The initial cost of the program was paid for in the 1980's You are missing the point of the program in that the cars don't just sit in driveways but they are seen moving about. How many times have you been in your personal car and seen tons of speeding and other violations and how many times have you been in your take homw car and everyone seems to be obeying the law? How many accidents has this kept from happening? You can't calculate it. You cannot calculate all the crime prevention these cars moving about are responsible for. The experts agree it is usually a 15% reduction in crime but that is only a guess or averaging of before and after figures. Does Lousiville need to see a 15% increase in crime for us to prove our point??

How much is your childs safety worth?

By letting the police take home the vehicles they are getting free police services and detering crime. Most officers that were first on scene at Fern Creek high school were off duty monitering the call that came out. How much is our childrens safety worth? How many tanks of gas is a childs safety worth? I guess only our Mayor can answer these questions.

The city is keeping these cars at least 8 years. $2000 x 8 = $16,000. This for a car that costs maybe $24,000. Tell me who would come out way ahead on that deal?

This sounds reasonable.
