What do you mean slow down. Some of us are going from run to run to run because we don't have enough people. When you get to the run that the people have been waiting over an hour for the police to show up on make sure and tell them that. Tell them that we don't have enough Officers and that our retirements are urpacing our new hires because nobody wants to stay and work for someone that continually abuses them and tries to break their contracts and take away the bennefits that he promised would be there.

While I empathize with you on the outright disrespect shown to us by the Mayor, work stoppages and slowdowns are not the answer (and if I am not mistaken, prohibited by our contract). There are many, many people that will sympathize with us on this matter but their support and sympathy will quickly disappear if we threaten their (perceived) safety by saying we are going to let the criminal element run unchecked. As a homeowner and father of two, I agree with them on that point. Keep in mind that many people in the public sector are losing their jobs, retirement savings, kids college savings, homes, etc... and will have no stomach for our complaints when they compare them to what they are going through right now.

The answer is to fight the good fight, involving as many other elected officials, community groups and media to aid us in this fight while keeping up the outstanding work we do on a daily basis. We have been continually been doing "more with less" for some time now and believe me, the community knows it. A previous post suggested that we call our council members and complain - that is an outstanding suggestion and we should all take the time to do just that. The FOP can be a soup sandwhich from time to time, but seems to be on top of this right now. Let them do their work, but make sure to check up on them so you are correctly informed of our situation.

Stay together and stay safe.
