Captain Thompson always stood up for his troops. He wasn't one of the pretty boys or one of the butt kissers so he never went beyond the highest civil service rank you could test for. I'm not saying everyone that gets promoted doesn't deserve it or doesen't belong there, but we have all seen our fair shair of test takers and apple polishers that were never Police Officers rise through the ranks. Steve Thompson was always a Policeman first and Commanding Officer second. There wasn't a day that went by that he wasn't working on catching criminals. It seems some of our CO's have forgotten that that is what we are there for. We are there to protect our community and enforce the law not duck and weave and self promote. We are losing an icon here.
Good luck to you Cap in all your future endeavors!
- Good luck Captain! I worked for you a ... 16 years ago

I use to reside in one of the districts that Mr. Steve use to patrol and what is funny is that everyone knew him. Not because of any scare tactics but because he was a good police officer.
I am 33 years old now and grew up most of my life knowing him whether it be from the streets or because my mother knew him personally before she retired from the radio room.
I want to congratulate and thank Mr. Thompson for all the hard work and dedication that he brought to his job and our city.
Again thank you and good luck to a good man.

Capt. Steve Thompson was one of a kind. You knew what he was. If you ever worked for him you knew that he would take care of his people as long as they did their job. He didn't have time for the turds that think they didn't have to get their hands dirty.
He really never fit in with the warm and fuzzy chair warmers that seem to gravitate towards command. He was always a Police Officer first and a Commanding Officer second. He never rose above the rank of Captain which was the top civil service rank because he made too many waves and wanted his people to police the neighborhoods not give hugs.
Good luck Cap!
