Mayor Abramson where is my raise?

June 21st, 2008 @ 2:18PM (16 years ago)

It's simple the Mayor knows he can let our money sit and build interest. At the FOP meeting McGuire was asked the reasoning behind the delay and he was told it was a people soft issue which we all knew was bull. They have no problem deducting what they want from us but I guess the "add button" must be broke.

EVERY PERSON THAT READS THIS ARTICLE NEEDS TO USE GOOGLE, TYPE IN LOUISVILLE METRO COUNCIL AND THEN CLICK ON THE LINK TO YOUR COUNCIL MEMBER AND SEND THEM AN EMAIL. IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE. DON'T RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE TO HANDLE THIS FOR YOU. THE MORE EMAILS THEY RECEIVE THE MORE THE UNDERSTAND THE GRAVITY OF THIS PROBLEM.

I have a tough time believing that Downard, who was supposed to be such a big supporter of the emergency service people in this city did not realize that we were not getting paid what we were due. Aren't the firefighters still due a bunch of overtime pay that the mayor is still fighting? And did anyone really expect the media to make a fuss on our behalf against the mayor? If you did, shame on you for such foolish thinking. They won't hesitate to do stories on cops looking at porn ( I guess no other profession has people that do that apparently ) but heaven forbid they look into the blatant acts of this mayor that are truly unprofessional.

I say that we will start paying his "Gas Surcharge" when we get our raises and Retro checks that we were promised 3 months ago. Or was this "Gas Surcharge" created to come up with the money to pay our Retro checks ??? Are we paying our own Retro checks ??? 30.00 per Officer (60.00 for those that work Off-Duty) per check from July to October would probably be about equal to what your Retro check would be. I know there are Journalists and Reporters that read this site and this would probably make a good story for you guys. And don't believe that he is only doing this to the Police, he is also fleecing the public through increased proprty tax evaluations when the real estate market is in a slump. Compare your property tax evaluation from last year to this year. Jerry, you truly are a criminal.........

For those of you who were not at the last FOP meeting (that would be 1000+ of you) lets set a few things straight about what happened. First, I am not on the FOP board, I am not sleeping with anyone on the board, and I really don't care that much about any of them. I just think that some facts need to get out. John Mcguire *did* state that the city told him the delay with the raise was a people soft issue; he did not say he believed it. John Mcguire gave a clear and concise account of the legal procedural steps he is taking to get us our money and (possibly) a little extra as a "punitive" settlement for the Mayor's bad faith actions. You are POLICE for crying out loud; you of all people should know that the legal system moves about as fast as a car with 4 flat tires and no gas. We were all told "June." June is not over yet and everybody is raising hell that Mcguire is not doing anything. The way I see it, from a *legal* point of view, Jerry has'nt broke his word yet. We all know he is going to, but *knowing* dope is in a house don't get a lot of search warrants, does it? Ya need PROOF. We won't have PROOF that Jerry is going to cheat us till 30 June and no retro checks. Mcguire stated at the FOP meeting that he was doing what he could legally to fix the situation. He (Mcguire) also stated that he was working on the "gas tax" and trying to do something about the tattoo policy. LET THE MAN WORK for the love of God. If so many of you don't trust him, how did he get elected? I don't know him, don't care much about him; however I think he is doing all he can for us. All you real smart guys that have better ideas start coming to the FOP meetings and help the man out; I bet he would be happy to have some outside ideas.

for the mayor to be saying the goverment is broke to the tune of 9mil and now come up and say how he is getting back 5mil from a one time check from the amount they pay to the pension system is bull. He wants to use 3mil for parks, curbs and other projects that are needed. This money should go to pay for the gas and our raises that he isn't giving us.

its kind of funny how he is saying it is a PeopleSoft problem as an email just went out telling all of us that the new updated and better version of PeopleSoft was coming soon. They have praised this system since they got it and now they are saying is cannot handle a simple operation of calculating out out raises.

I received a response from my Councilman Kevin Kramer first hing this morning. Here is what he had to say:

As we continie our budget discussions we will be looking more closely at how finance has dealt with the police contract. I know that Councilman Downard will be taking up these issues as chair of the Government Accountability committee. We were surprised to hear about the delay when it was presented at the public hearing. I am hopeful that the situation will be resolved quickly now that it has been exposed.

Please let me know if it isn't taken care of on the next check.

That was a pretty fair statement. Especially the last line. I urge everyone to contact their Council members. It is imperative that we not let this slide. If you have any contacts in the media then I suggest you call them about it. Let them know that the council was caught by surprise on this as well. Nobody expected the mayor to do something this low down. Maybe we were naive to expect him to honor our contract.

Kudos to the FOP for bringing this situation into the light of the media. I was glad to see them on WHAS, and is'nt it funny how our raises will be reflected on our next check. Must have called Peoplesoft Help Desk....

You know, I thought long and hard about this. I don't blame finamce for this. I agree, I don't blame the Polcie Department for thisand I don't blame the council. I can only think that this is Jerry Abramson and his cronies trying to stick it to us once again.

I do believe that the Chief should have marched into City Hall and a asked why his Officers are not being paid. I can't really believe he was as clueless as all of that.

Just to let u guys know all the media was sent a copy of Schweizers letter along with the metro council and CJ by me, not your FOP, last Friday. That is why he was intervied on tv. I had to sign my name to all of the councils letters so they know who sent it. I'm not asking for nothing but Paul wrote the letter and I sent it. He knows who I am and didn't have a problem with it. So if you want to give praise for getting it out give it to him.
