Mayor's office denies claim that city is building bomb shelter

Right now that simply isn't within the power of the city to do, there isn't enough space on either VHF or UHF for everyone to move to. When we can move to the new system, we can do it. (It's the feds, by the way, not the city that controls that - it's simply outside the power of the city to make it happen any faster.) Funny thing is, the technology is there, I've got a dual band handheld transceiver, switching bands is no more difficult for me than switching channels, but the feds won't let you transmit commercial on a ham radio. (For the record, my radio, which costs less than $300 bucks, is great, and in a pinch, I can run it off AA batteries ....)
