Mayor's office denies claim that city is building bomb shelter

Remember, LMPD got that land originally because it effectively can't be sold or otherwise developed, it was the old fire tower training center, lots of chemicals in the ground. I think it's been pretty well remediated, but it's location makes it unsuitable to most development anyway, between the marshy ground, Ashland Oil and the railroad tracks.

The bunker really needs to be where it can be better supervised though, at one of the substations, for example. I've long thought the old K-Mart site out in Okolona would be a great site for a training center - room to put everyone in one place, and have at least a small driving track. (But you'll never get a driving track just for LMPD, it needs to be available for all county public safety folks who drive, fire, EMS, other policing agencies, etc.)
