2008 Contract Passes

March 20th, 2008 @ 9:19PM (16 years ago)

Personally, I voted for it. I think with Ford and GE laying off people or trying to buy them out it would be tough to get sympathy from the majority of the public. What I see is the worst part of this is after all the votes were counted we had just under 700 officers / Sgts vote on this. That is not what I would call a great turnout.

But as someone else has said, it is time to move onto other items of business.

WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF THE APPROVED CONTRACT? I AM INTERESTED WHAT WERE THE BIGGEST CHANGES MADE FROM THE OLD CONTRACT. I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN WHICH F.O.P. SUPPORTED CHANGES WERE APPROVED AND WHICH WERE NOT. ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

LT's and Captains Contract

March 20th, 2008 @ 8:41PM (16 years ago)

The possible offer on the table to be voted on by Lt's and Capts next week is a five year contract of 0%, 0%, 6%, 2% and 2%. They have been without for 2 years so no back pay. They are getting 10% over five years and Officer's and Sgt's are getting with hidden money in the last 2 years 11.81% over 4 years.

THE CONTRACT PASSED....YEAH!!!!!!!

RESPONSE TO ALL THAT VOTED YES

March 21st, 2008 @ 8:44AM (16 years ago)

This is a response to all those who voted yes to the contract, you just made things worse for everyone and future lmpd officers and families. WE are not ford,GE workers that make tons of $$$$. WE risk our lives and sacrafice everything out there. So please dont compare US to "ford,GE" workers. It is a SAD sorry time to be a METRO officer.

People keep talking having public support, guess what, THEY DON'T CARE ! ! ! !

If they did jerry would not be in office now. Did we not try to tell the public how he does things? Most of the people you talk to on the street state that the Chief "has done good things for the Dept" do they not?

What if....What if.....What if......How about making things happen.

2008 Contract Passes

March 21st, 2008 @ 8:49AM (16 years ago)

I voted against the contract. I didn't like the fact that it doesn't even keep up with the cost of living adjustment, and I don't like the fact that our health insurance continues to get more expensive. More court pay and more pay for latewatch doesn't help me out either.

HOWEVER, it's time to move on to other issues. How about the fact that we are all about to get screwed over by the state government on our retirements?? Did anyone else notice the survey about the $60 fees??

2008 Contract Passes

March 21st, 2008 @ 3:51PM (16 years ago)

I can't believe with as many officers as I heard complaining about the contract that over 300 of them did not even show up to vote!! I'm sure some of them have legit excuses for not showing up and that's fine, but for the most part it's probably just laziness. Nobody deserves to complain who does not vote!! I heard more then one fellow officer say they were not going to vote because their vote "did not matter", and with the vote being reasonably close obviously it would have mattered!!

The average LMPD officer has a maybe few years of college at most and makes about $45,000 to $50,000 a year. Go find another job in this city that will pay a non-college graduate that kind of money and isn't being downsized out of existence. Most of the people with degrees on the department aren't exactly the sharpest saws in the shed, so go figure as to why they're not working someplace that pays better. Those complaining about being paid so little to put their life on the line may be right, but I wonder how much more taxes they'd be willing to pay to up the salaries of the troops in Iraq. Most likely not even a dime. LMPD isn't the best job but it isn't the worst job either. If you want to blame the Mayor for something, then blame him for not hiring enough officers, disbanding specialized units, not providing enough overtime dollars, and making everyone play statistics games every day writing tickets instead of stopping serious criminals.

March 22nd, 2008 @ 3:43AM (16 years ago)

There's no pleasing everyone - if you voted (either way) at least you cared enough to make the effort to do something about your future. What sucks is that we have to work with over 300 people that could care less about their future and that of their families. Makes you wonder what else they don't care about? I say we take the names of the officers off the list that did not vote and give them 1/3 of what the contract offers and give the difference to the 2/3 that voted. They don't seem to care anyway, why would they complain? Somehow I think they would shed their indifference and raise some hell. Maybe then they would understand what it means to participate.

Its amazing to me that the department requires a two year college education and we still fail to do simple math!.. If you take the average cost of living increase at 3.5%, which it?s higher now, and add up what we lost last contract + what we are going to lose this contact it averages -15%... Not to mention we are still paying more for insurance and now gas?.. If you base the -15% on an average of $50,000 yr. you are loosing an average of $7,500 + paying more for your insurance, gas etc? Say we paid $350 per month for insurance, subtract $7,500 from $4,200 for your insurance per year, you still come out +$3,300 more per year paying for the insurance and taking at least a cost of living raise at 3.5%...

Here?s the bottom line, we WILL pay for insurance like corporate America in the near future, the new contract proves that, going to $100 per month the fourth year? I would rather take a good raise, that by the way goes towards our retirement insurance doesn't, and pay for the insurance, we will still come out ahead!.. We are shooting ourselves in the foot at the rate we are going, we will cut our retirement into half by the time most can retire!.. Is that what you feel comfortable with?.. I don?t, I would rather enjoy retirement a little more and not have to work after retirement?..

I completely disagree with our FOP telling us this is the best were going to get, King Jerry is laughing his butt off right now!.. He just saved the city $9,000,000 dollars between this contract and last based on the average cost of living increase @ 3.5% Do the math again, $50,000 average per officer @ 15% = $7,500 X 1200 officers = $9,000,000? Our FOP should be fighting for every penny, not planting in our heads ?this is the best your going to get? let us make that decision. Do you go into a car dealership and pay full price for a car?.. I don?t, but evidently a lot of police do, they keep voting yes for the first contract presented to them!..

Furthermore, now they can transfer you for 90 days "TDY" because they don't like you!.. GREAT JOB "YES" VOTERS!..

Just my opinion

2008 Contract Passes

March 22nd, 2008 @ 6:56PM (16 years ago)

I've got a novel idea. Maybe somebody should post something stating that everyone who voted "yes" was an idiot. Does it not occur to you that none of the people who voted "yes" are calling the rest of us idiots. Maybe they should, because all the "no" voters made the department look divided.

And, I was always told that someone who says everyone else around them is crazy, is probably the crazy one themselves. I wonder if the same applies for a person who cries "idiot" all the time.

It's time to move on. Let's start planning now for making it better 4 years down the road, rather than crying about the worst possible scenarios. I haven't had to go to work since the day I graduated from the academy. I love this job, and I always will.

March 23rd, 2008 @ 7:02AM (16 years ago)

I'm glad to see most of our members are again airing our dirty laundry in a public forum. Somethings are best kept behind doors at FOP meetings and amongst ourselves. Never will the public have pity for a group of adults who whine like children. The fact of the matter is, the economy nation-wide is not doing so well right now and other large departments are actually letting people go in order to make ends meet. I know people in the public sector that have not gotten raises in 3 years. I know a few more at GE and Ford that, after years of loyal service, were handed pink slips, people with famililes. People the economy sucks for everyone. Is it fair the mayor and chief's are making so much more money? Absolutely not! Unless anyone of us can predict the economic future of the city and nation, we are hard pressed to bash people who voted for the contract and equally unfair to bash the ones who voted against it. Maybe the other 33% who didn't vote are actually cops that don't live beyond their means and remember why they became cops in the first place! I have family throughtout the United States in large and small cities. The headlines in each city are the same..Economic problems. The major difference I see between those cities and Louisville is actually not economics, but the lack of support our public emergency workers have in Louisville and other cities. Last week in the US, jobless claims were up. I'm happy to be employed in a field where business will never falter. What we are experiencing is what the nation is experiencing. Stop believing we are getting picked on. Do I think Jerry @#$% up things and made bad decisions! Absolutely and so did the rest of the community when Jerry proposed his Library Tax, and it was voted down. Jerry will go away someday and things will again be differnt. Maybe for better..Maybe for worse. Bottom line, I don't think anyone became cops to get rich and live beyond our means-and we all know someone on this department that does that. Shame on you if you can't maage your money. Your a cop, you chose to be a cop, and you should be proud to be a cop. This year, instead of worrying about a contract that realisically mirrors, and in some cases, outpaces other peoples situations during this difficult economy, lets learn to look out for one another, back each other up, stop pointing fingers, and work together. Personally,I have dug ditches, humped 80 pound packs and done construction in the heat of the sun. This job is not "work" per se. We all decided to serve the public and help others. Remember why you personally took the job and forget about the politics.

To Jerry and his overpaid aid who reads this message board, you ain't bugging me so get off your horse and fix all your latest screwups and realize, Louisville, the state of Kentucky, and the nation all have to tighten belts to make ends meet. Slow down your capital intensive projects and wait out the economy. People make up this community, not granite sidewalks, parks, and new construction. Personally Jerry, I think you ought to be fighting for a casino in Louisville. A casino that will bring dollarrs and revenue to town. Dollars that can be converted into tourism and public safety. THAT's how our city will grow.

Vote for me in the next mayorial election! See you on the street!

i read here about your benifits and how they are going away. how about this. all of you former lpd officers, did you know that prior to merger all lpd officers were covered by the city for disability insurance per the former lpd fop contract. after merger all lpd officers who DID NOT pay into social security have NO disabilty coverage what so ever, however all former county officers and new lmpd officers do have social security disability should they become disabled. for those of you that elected to pay social security (few if any) you aren't even qualified until you pay in for 5 consecutive years prior to being disabled. that's one of the most important issues that was never put in the contract after merger and remains not in the contract. i bet if you ask any fop elected member they won't even know what your talking about. don't be fooled by the social security mailing you get every year that shows you disability payment. that info is a generic form based on a person who meets all the qualifications. the same goes for your regular payment, that amount doesn't take in account for the penalty for officers who didn't pay social security and for those of you that don't know it's around 60%. so it's clear, this is how things are at the fault of the FOP. all former county officers who continued paying social security and all new lmpd officers will have a full social security benifit and have disability. most if not all former lpd officers won't. ask why this was never corrected by the fop. for all officers who never paid in social security don't retire and take the social security option as you will later lose most if not all of your pension.

From a retried lpd officer, for every officer on lmpd it's time for you all to finally learn your contracts and retirement benifits. Most of you have very little knowledge of your contract and most have no knowledge of your retirement. The retired officers before you, worked and got the 20 year retirement, unlimited sick time and had everything to do with your pay that you get today. Because of a poorly run F.O.P. for years and officers who have so little knowledge of contracts and retirement benifits, each and every officer is taking steps backwards. HEY OFFICERS you better worry about your retirement benifits that are being changed drastically, you better get a group of officers that can learn the retirement and lobby to keep what many of you think will always be there. As a retired officer most of my benifits are secure but I hate to think that this F.O.P. is who I have to rely on. Your F.O.P. is NOT trained or knowledgeable to handel the business of protecting your benifits. For years the F.O.P. has just been group of officers who like to drink on your dime and attend conventions to drink and eat more on your dime, WAKE UP. If your only belong to the F.O.P. for the legal aid protect, again this is where you need to learn, you can get the same coverage for the same price with other companies just not the one contracted by the F.O.P.. IN CLOSING, ALL OF YOU AND THIS FOP BETTER GET OFFICERS IN PLACE THAT HAVE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONTRACTS, THE PENSION. YOU BETTER GET THE PARTY PEOPLE OUT OF THE FOP AND GET AN FOP THAT WILL FIGHT AND LOBBY FOR POLICE PENSIONS AND YOU BETTER HAVE PEOPLE THAT TRUELY UNDERSTAND THEM. HERE'S SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT, GO OUT AND GET SOME OF THE OLD RETIRED GUYS TO HELP YOU GET BACK WHAT YOU LOST AND SAVE WHAT THEY ACHIEVED IN THE PAST. YOU OFFICERS WHO HAVE NOT RETIRED AND AREN'T CLOSE HAVE EVERYTHING TO LOSE.

The two posted comments above should be all the proof you need to support the argument of making the forum section of this website private. The webmaster needs to have all officers interested in posting comments log-in to the site to get to the forum section. Not only do you have to worry about dimwits leaving off-the-wall messages but anyone, anywhere in the world with a computer gets to see our laundry aired. This gives us the appearance of being unprofessional and completely divided. Let Mr. Ansman know we need this to be a private discussion.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS CRYING ABOUT? COMPARED TO THE OTHER PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES YOU GUYS ARE AT THE TOP. EMS IS ALREADY PAYING 300 A MONTH FOR THEIR MEDICAL INSURANCE. WHAT DO YOU GUYS PAY? I THINK ITS 50 DOLLARS A MONTH FOR THE FAMILY. THATS PRETTY GOOD AND THE BEST I HAVE SEEN JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE. THEY ALSO HAVE TO MAKE RUNS IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS TO DEAL WITH THE GARBAGE AND ALL THE DISEASES THAT THE CITY HAS TO OFFER. EMS HAS BEEN ROBBED AT GUNPOINT FOR THEIR MEDBAGS AND HAVE NOTHING TO DEFEND THEMSELVES WITH LIKE YOU GUYS DO EXCEPT FOR A RADIO TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE SO YOU GUYS CAN COME AND DO THE PAPERWORK AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT LATER. THEIR JOB IS JUST AS DANGEROUS WITH HALF THE PAY AND BENEFITS THAT YOU GUYS GET. A YEAR OUT OF THE ACADEMY YOU GUYS ARE MAKING CLOSE TO 20 DOLLARS AN HOUR AND YOU GUYS GET A FREE CAR WITH ALL THE FREE GAS YOU CAN USE. YOU GET TO RIDE YOUR FAMILY AROUND ANYWHERE IN METRO LOUISVILLE. YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GAS, INSURANCE OR MAINTANCE THANKS TO THE TAXPAYERS OF LOUSIVILLE. AND NOT TO MENTION THE 1500 DOLLAR CLOTHING ALLOWANCE YOU GET AND THE 900 DOLLAR EQUIPMENT ALLOWANCE THAT NO OTHER ANGENCY GETS. IM NOT SAYING YOU GUYS DONT DESERVE EVERYTHING YOU GET BECAUSE I BELIEVE YOU DO BUT YOU SHOULD LOOK AROUND AND SEE HOW GOOD YOU GUYS DO HAVE IT
