I hate to say it, but the mayor's plan seems to be mirroring that of other major cities. Places like Chicago, NYC, Philadelphia, New Orleans, all of them need more officers on the street. And of course, despite staggering crime rates and other public nuisance / quality-of-life issues, the money is sent elsewhere.

But despite all bad things, at least Louisville doesn't have a municipal residence requirement or a mandatory double-shift requirement. I'm all for police keeping their benefits and increasing the number of officers, but I also can't deny: despite the bad, it could be a *lot* worse.

Keep up the fight. Law enforcement has come a long way in the past 30 years. It shouldn't be sent backwards or be in a position to accept / tolerate exceptionally high or violent crime.

Someone, please, post the real, unvarnished numbers. It just all sounds like a shell game, what the Mayor is doing.

You don't "count" until you are riding solo. How many officers, right now, are on the payroll - taking off recruits, military leave, those on long term sick or on track to disability (I know that several are being carried on the books in that status). And I'll also ask, how many officers are in speciality units that take them off the daily grind - how many are in Community Reltions, training etc. (And if there are no training classes scheduled, what are the people in training doing? they have people working in "basic" training - so if they aren't going to do basic, then what are they doing?)
