Run cards and hand helds baby. I did see one generator test performed last month at MetroSafe. Its the first time I have ever seen one performed. Most companies dependent on generators test fire them weekly.Would you trust your car engine to start after it sat for a month, especially one that isn't brand new? That having been said, if the facility were damaged they'll be dispatching in the old Federal Reserve in open floor space probably. None of it is set up to handle 30 dispatchers. Maybe 6-8 of them would have a desk. The bad news is hand helds, aside from digitals, will not transmit in that hell hole building because the walls are so thick.

The one good thing about all of this is MetroSafe's dispatch computers, should the server still be functional if not the dispatchers terminals, is they can remotely access a stripped down version of the system on a web browser, and the MDT's are slowly migrating to I/CAD. That is more of a tribute to the company that sold Louisville the product than anything Lou Metro has done, built in fault tolerance.

You are right about Yellow and Rural, though I tend to find the private sector prepares for a disaster better than any government agency could ever hope to.

In reality, last week should never have happened like it did. St. Matthews should have handed off operational control to MetroSafe, and since we can all use plain talk (no f-ing 10 codes to screw up here) there should have been no problem dispatching SMPD officers to storm damage and burglar alarm calls. We are talking St. Matthews here, not Portland, it's not like they have to make shots fired calls and 911 payphone hangup calls constantly. MetroSafe is more than equipped to take over St. Matthews little chunk of the east end, the whole department has less officers than a division. They even have officers on the MetroSafe MDT's now that can see all the calls for service in Division 5.
