Radio system faces final step

January 8th, 2008 @ 1:54PM (16 years ago)

Ah, I was wondering when the newspaper would print something about yet anouther date when the Metrosafe project will be finished. Why I remember at merger in 2003 when it would be 2004, then 2005 then 2006 then 2007 then 2008 and now they are promissing it will be finished in 2009. It is a crying shame that the mayor who stated this was a "priority issue" when he first ran for office prior to merger has never been called on his failing to perform. We have been a merged community for 5 years and are truly much worse off than we were before merger due to his bumbling incompetence and malfeasance. Crime is up. People are dying at an alarming rate. We have fewer officers patrollling the streets than pre mergr.

Yes, there are problems with Metrosafe and it's not just the radio system. The people are overworked and some really don't care. Example: today I asked for a stolen check on a car and gave the tag # she told me she'd put me in line, after 20 minutes of silence I asked if she had run the plate. OH can you give it to me again (she totally forgot me.) No I don't have a MDT for which I submitted paperwork for 6 months ago. Case being what if it had been some thug with a gun sitting in a stolen car. Lucky it wasn't. You say file a complaint, well I have before on silly stuff with dispatch and nothing happens. They are no longer under the PD and yes they know it and basically do what they want. Metrosafe is a political joke to make the bobbleheads downtown look good and give Doug the asskisser a job. If this sorry Chief would spend as much time listening to problems with dispatch as he does at comstat he'd have a nucleur meltdown, but he's afraid of Doug and his crew. METROUNSAFE as the officers in the field have dubbed this joke we have to put up with. What I'm saying is this crap didn't go on when the PD was in control of dispatch. What we need a couple of the thousand sgt's they promoted put in the radio room to straighten it out. Sorry if I inflamed some dispatchers ( their not all bad ), but remember you sit in a room and my life depends on information you give me. I've been under dispatch for over 25 years and have never seen it like it is now. Yes, before you ask I'm looking at retirement soon.

Just for the record I agree with you for the most part, but FYI...Urban 4 and Suburban 3 are bridged 24/7. It's not just for emergencies. It's a small step I will admit but they have to work with what they have.
