I have never before posted a comment on this site. However, I can keep quiet no longer.

The men and women of Lodge 614 deserve proper "representation." That means that the interests of the members are what should guide the leaders, not personal agendas or vendettas. Once upon a time, I had great respect for President Keeling. However, in recent years it has steadily eroded. There really is not anything left. As one commentator noted, he should go the way of Liechty, Skaggs, Dossett -- and all the other members of the "What's integrity?" Club.

The President of the Lodge should be passionate about the needs of the membership. He should be respectful of others -- even the Mayor -- but unwavering in his quest to improve working conditions and efforts to appropriately defend members. Bill has not made it past the part about the Mayor ...it seems he confused the last part with "bettering one's self."

It is clear that President Keeling is a man on a mission -- his personal mission. He obviously does not care whom or what prinicples he tramples along the way. His personal attack on select lodge members and even certain board members have been relentless and unwarranted. As many have so clearly observed, why is it that no one from the Executive Board is supporting him and why are so many bailing out? Even with no other information available to us, this alone should send us a very clear message.

President Keeling is the first to be a full-time leader of the FOP. Unless I am misinformed, he no longer has any day to day duties from the police department. He is therefore able to devote all of his time and effort to the interests of the membership. Presidents previously received compensation from the Lodge because their duties required time and effort outside of their regular working hours. But in addition to being released from regular duties, Bill just received yet another raise from the Lodge and is now the highest paid President and by a significant margin!!! Bill: When is enough enough? I guess that when it is "all about me," it is never enough...

Anyone still sitting on the fence regarding the upcoming election should have been knocked over when the new newsletter arrived. How outrageous is it that those of the Keeling Slate are the ONLY candidates represented? Isn't President Keeling the one that stopped accepting advertising on the web site because accepting such funds endangered the non-profit status of the lodge?!?! And now he says that he "paid" for an ad?!?! By the way, if that is true, to whom did he make payment and when? And how much was it? Who determined the amount? Since it was not board approved and the board did not set a fair price, I think the answers are obvious and I doubt that any reasonable payment was made -- if any.

Actually, newlestter advertising might have been a good thing. Perhaps a certain amount of space could have been given to each candidate or slate without charge. Whatever the case, the board should have been the entity to establish the guidelines and the same opportunity should have been afforded to all -- fairly and universally.

It has been obvious from early in President Keeling's term of office that he considers himself the imperial power of the lodge. In spite of any poitive outcomes of his presidency (surely there are at least some...), the Lodge cannot afford to be led by a tyrant. If he is this tyranical at the end of his first term, just imagine what message election to a second term would give. None of us can afford that.

Holy Cow Batman! I have never seen and election that has been as hotly contested as this. In the past I remember people handing out bumper stickers and huggies on the day of the election and having to make a decision based only on guesswork.

Welcome to the 21st Century. I suppose that with avenues like this and e-mail that getting the word out to people is easier than it has ever been. I am glad that people seem to be posting good points on here. I hope they choose not to get petty and name call each other.

I was always told growing up in the country that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Well apparently something at the FOP is broke! I see the mayor still not giving officers raises. It took him 2 years to settle the firefighter?s contract and the Lt. and Captains on the Police have been out a year and a half already.

Like the man said. You don't see senior people leave their jobs for no reason, whether it is on the Police Department or the FOP Board.

I think I am stop by the Lodge Tuesday, get me a free beer huggie and vote to change the direction of the future of the FOP. I would rather try something new than keep on using the same sh!t I know don't work. (In case you too naive Bill, that would be you)

I don't know much about John McGuire. Everybody that does know him say he is a quiet and thoughtful person and very intelligent. I have known Bill for years and while he looks good and would have made a good spokesman for the lodge like when he was a

You're right. It's time for a change. Keeling is trying to build his empire. His VP is his yes man. His secretary is his brother and his financial secretary is the same guy who made the motion for Keeling to make $2000 a month. Kind of odd. Ask Keeling about the raise that he supposedly ordered the treasurer to not pay him his stipend and then turn around and cash the check every month. WHAT A CROCK OF CRAP! It's noble to say 'Let everyone else stand on their merits' but the truth is if you vote for anyone on Keeling's ticket then you're voting for him because they are all his Yes Men. I intend to vote for McGuire's entire ticket so he can finish what Keeling promised when he ran and never followed through on.

I know a lot of people comented on Bill's asinine comment in the story aboout the chief, but it looks like there is another wave of information comming forward from other board members who have seen some of this first hand. I can't understand how Mr. keeling thinks he can get away with these things if so many people know about it.

I understand that this wensite used to be the FOP website and that this is what President Keeling ordered taken down. Is that correct? Which puzzzles me because except from a few juvenile comments the postings on this blog have been very to the point.

I can see where it would be a pain in the rear for the chief and mayor but what a great way to get you point accross!

You know, there is kind of a similarity between Bill and Bob.

They both promised to make roll calls to check on the troops every so often, but it seems that both of them didn't quite get through one round of that.

They tried to act concerned about taking care of the troops, NO PROOF IN THAT!

They are both looking for bigger and better jobs, yes don't deny that one Bill.

They both actually like Mark Miller, of course not for the same reason, Bill thinks that Mark is actually intelligent dealing with Legal matters, and Bob KNOWS that Mark is NOT! But they both love him.

They both have YES men at their feet (Bill's entire ticket have YES tatooed on their foreheads)

Maybe it would be better if Bill and Bob BOTH went to Chicago!!!

Let's talk about Bil's false claims: He said he recommended we hire a second attorney for the contract. Sorry, but I was on the selection committee to look at the best candidate for the job of negotiating our contract. After studying the issues and eliminating certain agencies we got down to the nitty gritty and found a star; Steve Lazarus. Our committee recommended to the Board unanimously that the lodge should hire Steve Lazarus. We were shocked when the President stood up and took a personal privelage time as he calls it and said he would find it impossible to run the lodge without Mark Miller. Mark aparently hinted to Bill that he didn't know if he wanted to keep on doing the lodge business if he didn't get the contract. Bill believed him and panicked. He got on everyone to the point where the first vote for Steve Lazarus didn't pass. (There was something screwed up about the procedure and how it was accomplisehed, I don't know the correct terminology) It looked like once again we would have only Mark Miller at the negotiations and the same ol' same ol'. Thank God one of the board members made a motion for dual representation.

I just want to straighten out that Bill NEVER recommended 2 attorneys. He wanted Mark Miller only and when he found out the committee didn't reccomend him he ranted and raved about what a disservice that we had done by not picking his boy. I was so mad I couldn't see straight, but there was nothing I could do because I couldn't vote.

TUESDAY I CAN VOTE AND I GUESS YOU KNOW WHO I AM NOT VOTING FOR DON"T YOU MR. KEELING?

I have heard that Bill Keeling is the reason why there are no incentives for physical fitness and things like shift differential. He does not want to give younger more fit officers or younger officers that work mid or late watch more money that old timers.

About Caribou

Since exploding on to the Louisville music scene in the 70's, Caribou has continually wowed audiences. In their thirty year history Caribou has appeared at just about every major club, festival and music venue in Louisville, and has played at more parties and special events than you can count. Beginning with straight-ahead rock and roll in the seventies and eighties, adding a bit more pop and dance tunes in the late eighties and ninetees, culminating in the full-blown, brass - accompanied dance band they are today.

Son't worry Bill I am going to vote for you. Just as soon as you get my money back that the City illegally taxed me on on my equipment and clothing allowance check or whenever you get us a decent raise....whichever comes first. What? you don't think you'll solve either problem by next Tuesday? Well then I guess you know how myself and a lot of other officers are going to vote.

You could have done a good job had you just not rolled over every time an issue was brought to you. I am very dissapointed in your performance of the past 2 years.

The Debate

November 20th, 2007 @ 9:27AM (16 years ago)

I went to the debate last night because from the e-mails I received I thought it was going to be a big ambush for John McGuire. Apparently so did most of the other people in the room. As it turned out that is the way it was planned , with Keeling refusing to make a time change because John had classes that night and both candidates debated well.

John had to leave around 730 and guess what? Bill and buddy David james decided to keep the debate going. What a bunch of crap! Brent Hardin stood up and told them off. He said that is ain't a damned debate if there is only one person there.

Bill is a DICTATOR, I've been under a dozen FOP pres, and he's the worst I've seen. It's his way or noway. If I hadn't emailed him 30 times and rode his ******** he never would have took the raise contract issue to arbitration.(from there it should have went to court be cause the arbitrator was a Uof L prof in Jerrys pocket, but with his new raise from the lodge he could give a damn less about you.) He backstabbed the committee members that wanted to get rid of Mark Miller on contract negotiations I know because I was 1 of them. If this lodge doesn't vote him out he will run it in the ground and destroy what's left. I know John McGuire and he's the best for us. Guys get off your asses and vote. R Evans 6th

It is like watching an old war movie where the plane is shot up and spinning out of control. Bill Keeling's (what he thought were) well laid plans are plummeting to earth and soon to be a fiery wreckage.

In his latest blunder of blunders he has stepped over a line once again. If you haven't yet received your "newsletter" for this quarter you will be surprised or maybe not to see a huge paid advertisement in what is supposed to be only an informational newsletter.

WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Bill Keeling decided that it would be all right to buy ad space in the newsletter. I would venture to say John McGuire or any of his ticket was not offered ad space. In fact I would lay money on it. This is an outrage! Not only is it a low down dirty trick that was done at the expense of the members, but he outright lied to the board and said the candidate information would be in the next newsletter and coincidentally he failed to mention that he was advertising his slate. What a pompous a$$! How do you just happen to forget something like that???

Some people will think it is no big deal. It is a big deal for several reasons.

The Board of Directors was never told of this. Our organization is based upon control of everything that happens being in the hands of the board. Not one man! This is not the Imperial Presidency of King Bill the 1st.

This is the same thing he currently has a grievance filed against him for.

He is endangering the non-profit status of the Lodge by taking income form outside sources. We are allowed to take donations not payments. How would it be if we were suddenly to lose or non profit status because he decides on his own to take payments?

He is using Lodge equipment to further his needs.

I would like to see the deposit slip on this with the date and time. I am sure it was hidden from the Treasurer in just another attempt of this arrogant President to rule as he wants and forget the rules that govern our organization.

November 18th, 2007 @ 2:35PM (16 years ago)

I got home from work yesterday afternoon and found an FOP newsletter in my mailbox. I was interested to see that the whole back page was dedicated to Bill Keeling's "Vote for Me" advertisement. Curiously I didn't see anyone else's advertisiment in here for their ticket. I find it very offensive that the President of the Lodge chose to use and official publication to further his agenda without giving anyone else the opportunity to have an chance to announce their candidacy.

If this is what kind of man is running the lodge then I don't want him there. I also noticed that the announced polling locations were set for the 3rd division, the 8th division the courthouse and the lodge. What the heck is up with that? He can find time to insert an ad for himself but he can't correct the locations to say all 8 divisions the courthouse and the lodge? Is this a deliberate attempt to keep people from coming out and voting? I find this very interesting.

I was disgusted with his comment on the news about the Chief and with the lack of information we get form the lodge. I hope that this will change when a new administration takes over the lodge tuesday.

I am a Metro Officer, proudly former LPD, but a Metro Officer now. I don't care what department you came from we are all one now and have been for 5 years. His deliberate attempt to segregate former LPD districts says a lot. It tells me that the former LPD guys don't like him. I never gave it much consideration because my district and platoon is a big mix of former LPD, JCPD and striclty Metro hired Officers. We all work together and for him to try and drive a wedge between us is wrong. Has anyone elso notice this?

"Submitted by a concerned lodge member"??? What kind of crap is that?

It takes no courage or integrity to rant and rave under the guise of being "concerned." Why are you afraid to sign this letter if you are so passionate about its content? I think it's great that you want to get involved, but it weakens such strong words to leave them anonymous.

To the editor of this site - don't you think it irresponsible to publish an anonymous letter as your main article?
