The whole system is, to be honest, broken. LMPD is way short - the question is WHY? Is it because 1) no applicants, 2) agency not willing/able to train sufficient numbers, 3) agency not willing to hire because they want to use the money for other things? Until you can answer the why, and be correct, you don't have a prayer of actually doing anything about the problem.

As for solving burglaries, etc., well, that takes investigation. Unfortunately, the system in this county is so messed up that even WITH strong evidence, officers can't bring cases. I've aware of several situations in recent years, burglaries and the like, where the officers knew precisely who had committed the crime, caught them with the stolen items, yet didn't even feel they could get an RSP on them. Cases that in any other county would have resulted in a conviction don't even warrant an arrest in this county.

The LMPD, in my experience of the last 16 months, resents and further victimizes those affected by property crimes, especially those victims who do not accept the status quo of "we' too busy", "not enough resources", "too much crime", "no overtime", and "let the insurance company worry about it". Chief White has stated that "the problem is with the judicial system, not the LMPD." Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights....
