I have to agree with you if that were the case. CSU should have been called. It sounds like a lazy officer not wanting to do his job. We sadly see it every day. Don't judge all of us by what one lazy SOB did. If there is any chance of getting latent prints or DNA evidence at a scene I always call CSU.

There is no standard investigative protocol for so called "class II" incidents, as defined by the LMPD. No physical evidence no crime and no crime means no investigation. There is no association between the Police report and an insurance claim. The former is filed because that is the standard first step in the procedure to document what has been stolen so that Police statistics can be kept. It does not go beyond that. You, as the victim, must deal with the insurance company and it is the information provided by you that is used in your case, nothing comes from the Police. But, in case you don't know, about 1/3 of your car insurance premium and about 1/4 of your home insurance premium is there because of the loss ratio associated with car thefts and burglaries. So, the cost of a stolen car and a home burglary are very much part of what you pay and that explains why the Police will tell you "let the insurance company worry about it".
