Hmm... rings a bell with a story posted about a week ago covering problems with Portland, OR and their police department's hiring problems (and several of the comments posted about it).
Looks like police, fire and EMS aren't the only ones facing personnel shortages because of pay and benefits.

I can't blame them at all. After all when you have student loans, car payments, mortgages and a family you have to eventually try and get ahead of the game. Why do you think so many Police Officers work 2nd jobs? Unless I want to live in a section 8 apartment I have to work extra to pay the bills.
