The dirty little secret in suppressing crime |
RE: The dirty little secret in suppressing crime
I'll say it again. We need a college reimbursement incentive like other departments have! Not one to pay for college after being hired, but a yearly incentive pay based on what type of degree you already have. I agree college is not necessary but at least use this as a recruiting tool and incentive for some to go back to college.

College degrees will soon replace high school diplomas as the minimum education for almost all employment in this country. In the 1930's and 40's during the big factory period in this country, a person who could read and write could work almost anywhere, with or without a high school dimploma. That changed in the 1970's and 80's with employers requiring at least high school diplomas to work most jobs. Surely it will change again in the future, it is changing now. It is a matter of doing what is needed to get where you want to go. The military was the same way. Remember the old "It's jail or the military boy" option back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. You can't just "Go in the military" any more. Yes I quess they still need bullet stops but with advancements in technology and sophisticated equipment, they need people who will be able to understand how to work it. "Front Towards Enemy" was not put there as a joke, it represented the mentality and education of that era. Things change, you either change with them or you dig ditches. No offense!

"We are starting a new class this week. It will be 32 weeks before they hit the streets."
Unless they cut the academy short there is absolutely no way that these people will start policing before February 2008.
