Mayor claims public safety at the top of his list in proposed...

June 3rd, 2007 @ 12:53AM (17 years ago)

One side note: in all of the talks about recruiting more police and making a contract with the fire department, are there any plans to help the people at Corrections? Despite bad press, the police tend to get the better pay and benefits; fire and EMS don't make as much, but it's hard to bad mouth someone whose entire career is a full 100% about saving lives; but no one mentions anything about helping the people that literally walk unarmed among the hundreds-to-thousands of predators in the jail.

Are there any plans to give the Corrections Officers a boost?

Jerry Abramson doesn't give a damn about corrections. He waants to privatize the jail and no doubt give a buddy of his the contract.(Just like all the other things he has privatized!) He wants EMS privatized so that would be 2 groups he wouldn't have to pay into the pension system on. He also wants to take the arrest poweres away from corrections so they will be just "guards" and not Law Enforcement Officers.

It is a pitiful situation in this town because we have a Mayor that regards public safety prefessionals as a neccesary evil and thinks they should be treated no different than can tippers.
