RE: Derby Cruising Ban Criticized as Racist...Chief Defends Decision...

I've dealt with the "yap" at the car wash at 17th and Broadway and he is well aware of what goes on at his car wash. He's even been threatened by "patrons" that hang out there, yet he wants to do nothing that will cost him more money to curtail the problem. I've dealt with Lee's Chicken on Broadway during Sunday cruising in the summer and she too wants to spend no money to help her property from becoming a problem, ie: clearing lots with private security, cameras, barracades...At thetime, she never even made an attempt. Both businesses believe it is the responsibility of the police to control their problems that they choose to do nothing about. According to their thinking, a citizen can open up any business and any problem that business brings should be corrected by the police-they hold no responsibility for actions on their property. The liquor stores share the same logic...So open up a liquor store in a povished part of town, get rich while doing it, and as an added bonus, the taxpayers of Louisville will foot your security bill and address any problems that you refuse to address, all the while you keep bringing in the cash!
