Well, the law has actually changed in recent years, and in fact, an old Louisville case (Ashby v. City of Louisville) addresses this as well. The Supreme Court decided the Castle Rock case, fairly recently, which pretty much strips any liability from officers in such situations, as well. (There's a pretty bad case out of Florence that also says the same thing. The administration could discipline, but they won't win in court. Basically, the Courts don't make you responsible for every bad thing -
