RE: Man fatally shot on Dixie Highway identified

Having worked numerous homicide and multiple homicide scenes in the 2nd Division over the last few years, a shooting is one of the most emotionally charged scenes an officer- or multiple officers have to deal with. Despite crime tape that is intended to protect evidence that might help solve the crime, many relatives and friends of the victim disregard the tape and try to enter. This only infuriates the relatives and friends and they become emotionally charged and violently-some even throwing things at officers. Further, something that always amazed me was how quickly the news spread that someone was killed. The crowd grows quickly, especially on warmer nights when lots of folks are outside. It takes alot of resources to maintain the scene and the crowd, collect and preserve evidence, and allow the detectives to do their job. It takes ALOT of officers if it is to be done right. And the flip side to that is, if its not done correctly, LMPD gets another another black eye from the community. Take your pick- oh yeah, stop shooting each other. That requires even less man power.
