Unfortunately, the courts care, and deputies do NOT get the same employment protection as other "police" in Kentucky. That's my point - not that they don't deserve all the respect of "peace officers" - which is the generic term in Kentucky anyway. It's just a reminder to all the LMPD guys planning on retirement that they aren't going to get the same protections if they go to a sheriff's office without a merit board, including Bullitt.
