Gangs in Louisville a Myth?

February 21st, 2007 @ 12:51AM (17 years ago)

What the hell was Col. Turner talking about. The 4th district technically is in the West End of town. Since when is Park Duval not considered the West End. I would like to see the statistics they used and how they used them. I know from experience that most crime in the West End goes unreported because people are scared to call the police.

That man may wear a badge, but he knows nothing about being a policeman. You are truly an idiot.

From working in the 4th I can tell you what the problem is. Other areas have enough police to help take care of the area (I know you are short too) BUT you go out to the 4th and every shift is short officers. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH OFFICERS TO TAKE CARE OF PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY EXIST. Look at the stats on calls for service, self initiated runs and violent crimes. THEY (the adminstration) took 2 old city districts and merged them into ONE never increasing manpower. If they want to make the area safer they need to either increase manpower in the division or split it up into two so officers aren't running from Broadway to Manslick. The front office has no clue as what areas are safe and what it not. They make the stats say what they want them to say.

This is typical of Phil Turner. I'm surprised he didn't give a letter grade the people that compiled the report. Another thing that surprised me was the fact that he gave praise to all of the community organizations for being the ones to keep the crime rate down in the fifth division, but didn't give any credit to the officers who patrol those areas. I guess to him it's all well and good if someone calls the police to report a crime and that makes everything all right, but the people to respond to the crime and the people to solve the crime aren't important enough to mention. Of course it's been a long time since he's actually been out as Terry Winstead says she used to do "among the troops". At lease the professor doesn't profess to do that. When you turn the corner over, his statement is a direct insult to those areas with a high rate of violent crime. He saying not only do the officers not do their job, but that the citizens that live in those areas don't either. It's put the blame squarely on the shoulders of whom it lies with. The thugs and gang members and drug dealers are partly at fault for what goes on, but the administration that turns a blind eye to this is to blame also.

Great graphic! The picture says it all. If that doesn't have the administration and both Metro Government and the police department down pat I don't know what does. Well done Mr. Webmaster!

What was Tom Owen thinking? Pubic involvment!!! "The only way we can stay ahead of the criminals is to keep and build pubic involvement," Councilman Owen said. Does he want to fight crime or add to it???

I thought Lt. Col. Turner was a smart man. Wow, where is he coming from on this one? Is he the one in the picture covering his eyes?

IF, there are no gangs supposedly in the louisville community then why is every fence, wall, abandoned house in my neighborhood have the ABC boys bloodguns spray painted on them. This has been an on going problem for the last three (3) years in my neighborhood. The area is CONN ALLEY, PARTHENIA, STRADER,LENTZ, CAMDEN, and all other streets in the area. Its so bad in the summer months, that your scared to let your wife go to the store after dark by herself. The lil punks 15 to 20 mostly black are anywhere from 14 to 20 years old who will just stand in the street and wont move daring you to hit them, and if you do get out of your car they'll jump you and if you did hit one of them than they'd want to sue you. Police have been called numerous times to confront this matter but bye the time they resspond they all ready moved on . PRETTY SOON , residents are going to take matters into their own hands. WE cant and WON'T let these lil punk asses take over our neighborhood

Soon, there won't even be "The Highlands." Everyone thinks the Highlands is a safe area but south of the Highlands there's Newburg. Newburg is the most dangerous part of town next to the West End. To the North is the fourth-divsion. When the violence is pushed out of those areas it proceeds to the Highlands. Naw, don't get scared
