3rd Division Officer Forced To Shoot Suspect During Knife Attack

I would just like to say thank you to this police officer and the rest of the police officers who protect our community. It is sometimes very difficult to understand the difficult and dangerous job you all do. I just want you to know it is appreciated. May God keep you all safe. Bethany McBride

Nobody really ever wants to hear about an officer involved incident like this ever...but if it has to happen this situation was handled pretty close to textbook perfect. Brent did exactly what he was trained and felt that he had to do to make sure that he went home to his wife and baby, and to protect the citizens from an obvious threat to society. This "bad guy" had an extensive history with breaking the law and apparently was in no way wanting to fix it. I am a close friend to late watch 3rd division...It is always a pleasure to be on the opposite side of the radio.... I have also been on several ride alongs and have always been impressed by my experience. I am friend of Brents and have done numerous ride alongs with him. Brent always acts with great respect and professionalism. We are lucky to have officers like Brent and others to serve our community. Keep up the good work Brent and be safe.

I am a relative to the suspsect that was shot. It was a bad situation for everyone involved but I know the officer did what he was trained to do and anyone in that position would have done the same. I will miss him but he had every opportunity to make things right and to make the situation turn out to where things would have ended peacefully. What alot of people do not understand is that officers do not go on shift to go out and kill or hurt people. Officers respond to situations and hope that it will end up good but when criminals attempt to use deadly force or any other kind of force officers respond accordingly. Officer Jones did what he had to do to protect himself and to go home to his family. Now this officer has to go home and live the rest of his life with having to take a life. No matter what people are going to say this officer responded to the threat and anyone, officer or civilian, would have responded the same way.

Brent is a great officer and friend. My heart goes out to him and his family.

Brent, you and your family is in my prayers. I know the sacifice you officers have to take every time you put the uniform on and go to work every night. Being a wife of an officer, we know what you might be up againts when you make runs. You have such a dangerous job to protect and serve and being a wife of an officer, were just so proud of what you do. You are , our Police, Husband, but most of all our HERO. Once again we see an Officer that has protected the community and instead of receiving any accolades from the media they instead preface the news story with leading headlines like " Police are investigating to see if this shooting was justified." We have heard the tapes and of course we know that it was justified, but they can't just say. Thank you Officer Jones for protecting us and we know that it will affect you deeply having to use deadly force, but we understand that you were doing your job.

Also ince again you don't hear anything from the Coleman & 2X camps because it was a caucasioan Officer shooting a caucasian perp. When will they realize that race has nothing to do with it? Even the media buys into this crap. Have you seen anything in the news about it after the the second day? Of course not, because it isn't news when a bad guy that is white gets killed. The media plays up the race card in a heartbeat.
