I'll point out that there are lawyers on BOTH sides of the equation - lawyers defend cops just as often as plaintiffs sue cops. And often the lawyers defending you make less than the cop they are defending - check out the beginning pay for a new county attorney.
No radios? I'm not aware that LMPD isn't giving you radios, now. Shifts are shifts, it's a 24/7 job, no way around that. I worked for the city for 8 years and when I left, I was making exactly one thousand dollars more than when I started, most years we (the civilian employees) got a zero percent raise, and the couple times we got raises, it was eaten up by an increase in health insurance. It's not just cops that don't get raises.
