Kids At Roller Rink Say They Were Maced By Officers

October 2nd, 2006 @ 5:28AM (18 years ago)

Lets make sure the media doesn't include that this all started over the attempted disarming of a corrections officer's sidearm at Robbens Roost. Which resulted in the mace being sprayed over the crowd. Followed by numerous announcements over the PA systems of several police cruisers for the crowd to leave the area otherwise pepperballs would be used. Well guess what? The crowd chose to start throwing rocks and bottles at the officers on the scene. So pepperballs were fired at the ground to clear the crowd out of the streets. Then these "innocent children" swarmed the White Castle and the manager had to have the officers clear the restaraunt out. So where did the little angels go? They ran across the street to a gas station and began throwing rocks and bottles across Bardstown Rd at the officers. So the pepperballs were used again which resulted in the crowd moving to the Krogers where a fight broke out between 2 of these "good children." Kroger was happy too about these kids knocking over their flower planters in front of the store and breaking them. Just like the Walmart on Bashford Manor was happy when they filtered down there and began throwing the pumpkins from the front of the store out into the parking lot.

So kudos to all of you reporters out there from WHAS, WLKY, and Fox 41 for not reporting anything that had to do with the reality of the situation. I'm sure those Journalism Degrees you all bought online will eventually payoff. Oh and just for the record LMPD does not use rubber bullets nor were any beanbag rounds fired at the crowd.

Mace?

Did the spokesperson actually say mace? If not, have the corrected that information with the media reports? CORRECT 'EM REPEATEDLY WHEN THEY ARE WRONG! Yeah, I know, they may not acknowledge it, but they just might. (And don't just tell the reporter, copy it all the way up to the editor in chief.)

Funny how these "Parents" are concerned about the behavior of the Police but not of their children - some of whom are physically adults and obviously capable of considerable violence, especially in a mob mentality. The maturity for restraint is not prevelant in teens and everywhere there is a "teen night" or "under 21" night there is trouble and violence. Maybe these "Parents" should focus on being just that and quit blaming the Police for having to do something they have not - enforce rules for their kids. If you don't like the way the Police are parenting your children, then step up to the plate and do it yourself.

PS - Corrections officers are not Police officers and the distinction should be made that "macing" seems to be a popular way to clear out crowds in clubs of color. Don't think so? Check the web for the deaths of several folks trampled in one such incident in Chicago. It also happens here more than you know. They made a bad situation worse and then dumped on the Police department to clean up and guess who is getting all the blame?

a sorry (by the) chief

October 3rd, 2006 @ 11:25PM (18 years ago)

It is real good to see the chief back up his department. He started out his speach at the public meeting by saying he was sorry it occured and wished it could have been taken care of another way. Once again he is convicting his officers before all the evidence is in.

The chief of the department has digraced every LMPD officer in uniform by apologizing before an investigation has been completed. There is no doubt that Mayor Jerry made sure that the chief apologized to keep in the good graces of "Potential Voters" The chief has lost all respect, which was not very much in the first place by me. Just like the Mattingly trial, the chief has decided to bow to public opinion from a small group of people and would not let the system take its course. Unless the in car video camera shows somethihg we have not scene, I believe the officer made the correst decision. 800 people against 3or 4 officers are not good odds for any officers. By the way who the hell lets their 5 or 6 year olds go out to the skating ring without the parents being present. To the chief and mayor bad political move on your part, but sadly it was expected. Way to be spineless.

I work in Law Enforcement, not as an officer, but as a Dispatcher. I was working the night of the Robbens Roost incident. The news media, or course, told a one sided story. I am very upset with the way our/my officers are being scrutenized for the job they were hired to do: Protect and Serve. A large crowd of unruly juveniles is just as dangerous as any other subject or incident officers may come across. The news failed to mention how juveniles tried to disarm officers; how disrespectful they were towards authority, commands and instructions. Where are parents?! Why does our community continuously band against our officers and their actions? And why does the Chief and our local news media continue to ignore pertinent problems with potential deadly outcomes? Get the stories straight- and support the right side of the LAW!
