Citing Rising Crime Rate, Downard States He Will Replace White...

Sounds promising... anything's better than what we're dealing with now on the streets. Make sure to VOTE!!!! Tell your freinds and family to make sure they do the same.

A couple of points about Chad Carlton's comments (the mayor's spokesman). First, that the proposals would "'turn back the clock' on crime fighting in Louisville"... Seeing where I work, in every neighborhood the citizens complain about how bad crime has gotten and how the neighborhoods have deteriorated in just the past few years. Now we always need to look ahead and develop new ideas and tactics, but sometimes what you were doing before was working a lot better. It's time to revisit some old ways and try them out with some new.

Second point is short, this is NOT a big city. No matter how they try to twist the numbers with a merged government... it is NOT a big city. That's not a knock on Louisville either. Being a small, hometown city is nice. I wish the mayor's office would stop advertising like that so, I guess, they can make there own position sound more important.

Last point, with Louisville it's hard to get an accurate rate for most crime. NIBRS, which Louisville is supposed to be following, REQUIRES that reports be taken on all Class A offenses and also Class B offenses where there is a charge (I think that's the right terminology, it's been a while since I read it). Now how many times do we NOT take reports on assaults, thefts, etc. because we can write it off as a warrant case, or whatever other reason? I think that there is a drastic difference in the official crime rate (because that's based on what's reported) and what the crime in the city actually is. Again, I'm not knockin' it... I greatly enjoy NOT taking reports, but most other cities follow the NIBRS rules. Every assault called in is reported even though it's actually handled the same way (CBE: vic refuses to cooperate if they don't go down to take a warrant or Inactive, which isn't on our reports if there isn't anything to follow up on).

My whole point in all of that is that crime IS on the rise and we desperately need a different direction.

Does anyone know of any polls for the mayors race? I am hoping Downard can pull it off but in this liberal city I just don't know. The media does a terrible reporting on the issues with the Abramson admin, naturally, so I think most people just don't take the time to know what is really going on. Police recruits are missing some very good training due to the Southfields sale but again, the community just doesn't seem to care that much.

I think with all the accidents that involved LMPD officers here lately I agree with Mr. Downard to add another divison/district. I lost a good friend in January due to an LMPD officer and was upset that no charges would be filed against Ofc. Brown. (especialy with his pass history of driving) . Like everyone is saying a badge is a sheild to get by with ANYTHING!!

Campaign

OK, this morning, the CJ is reporting a major fundraiser for Abramson - and an interesting list of people. I particularly note the CEO of Thornton's - doesn't LMPD (and other city cars) almost exclusively use Thornton's for fuel? Mmmmmnn, conflict of interest there?

So, how many of you have donated money to the Downard campaign, and encouraged friends and relatives to do so? It doesn't matter how much money a candidates raises, it only matters how many VOTES they get, and corporations can't vote, people vote.

I have been a lifelong Democrat and have worked in Mayor Jerry Abramson's political campaigns since the Democrat Primary of 1985. I have became so disappointed with him during the last term of office that our entire family have changed our voter registration to Republican last spring, and we are supporting the entire Republican ticket, including Kelly Downard! If we have a heavy voter turnout in November and get people out to the polls to vote, we can defeat Abramson this fall. He has appointed the very worse police chief in the history of the Louisville & Metro's history! We need to send Chief White back where he came from and appoint a new chief from within the Metro Department. Thanks!!
