The whole awards process and banquet have become a politically correct joke. The awards committe that votes on these awards and the command staff that checks off on them are nothing more than a rubber stamp. An officer gets an award for getting a road paved. An officer gets an award for disarming a suspect. Guess what gentelmen, that is our job. The whole idea that you feel like you need or somehow deserve some special recognition for what you are suppposed to be doing as a police officer everyday is frightening to say the least. We handle dangerous situations, nuisance abatement, and thousands of drunk Derby goers every year. Congratulations. It's called being a police officer in Louisville, KY.
