Most stores will not allow their Loss Prevention to go hands on at all. One touch and it's your job. Most people could care less about you until they need you. The same goes for these guys and gals working retail LP. They don't have any backing from the store's managment until they are needed for a shoplifter, an irate customer who's gone DC on them, drunks that start fights and the like. They get spit on and called names and can't even defend themselves without risk of losing their jobs.

Kind of sounds like the police department, huh?

So many times you go to store on a shoplifter and you're just ******** over the fact that usually just a bunch of paperwork. Next time you go to lock up a shoplifter, you might keep in mind that the LP guy doesn't exactly have it easy, either.

And every single LMPD officer that retires and goes to the JC School police just exacerbates that problem - there should be an absolute refusal of any sworn officer to go to work for a system that won't let trained and sworn officers carry guns to protect YOUR kids! And every member of the current board that doesn't immediately support allowing them to be armed should be strongly supported AGAINST - and any candidate that wants the support has to go on the record as supporting it. It is absolutely insane that they will allow other officers to come in armed as SROs, but won't let their own cops be armed.
