Pit Bull Ordinance Controversy Heats Up
I have owned a pitbull that has just recently got sick and passed away and I believe that there are no bad dogs just bad owners and
neglectful/abusive owners. And I believe that all animals should be treated equally. These people who think all of this breed of dogs are vicious and dangerous should take into consideration that if you chain dogs up, beat them, and train them to fight they are going to be agressive and that is the owners fault for mistreating animals.

Certainly it is laughable that this somehow violates the constitution, but this is dangerous ground they are treading on here. First, who decides your dog is indeed a pit bull or rot? What if you have a lab/ boxer mutt that just happens to look like a Pit Bull? Any dog owner should be outraged and activly protesting this law. If not, it may just be a matter of time my friend before your dog gets added to the list. There are indeed plenty of laws here to address these issues without targeting individual breeds. The problem is animal control is short handed and (seemingly) unwilling to take action when you can actually get one to respond. How many times have you heard "Animal control adivises they have no one to send" ? How many times have you had animal control respond to an offenders home only to advise they could not cite for an offense? A lot. Make the laws you already have work first folks.

What's the solution? I have parents in their mid seventies who put thereself at risk whenever they leave their house. Their "neighbor" has 2 pit bulls. One on a chain and another on the loose within the yard. The fence that keeps the dogs in check is about 4 to 41/2 feet high. There is an area of fence which is lower than that. Eveytime I visit I have to be looking around just in case other neighbohood pit bulls are on the loose. There are some people who think they are bad asses so they want a bad ******** dog as well.
