Toronto Police Hiring Investigators To Watch Dog Special Investigations Unit

The officer has an attourney present after any critical incident. It's part of the contract that the FOP be contacted immeadiately, and then they contact the attourney the officer wants. In most cases an attourney is waiting for the officer at PIU before the officer gets there. Several officers told me that being greeted by their lawyer as soon as they get there is the best feeling in the world, like the bad stuff is finally over.

That's a laugh. Jerry Abramson doesn't give a fat rat's arse about the Officer's defense. No attorney's are provided. That is why the FOP joined the National FOP's Legal Defense Fund in 1994. Our Officers now have unlimited legal defense from the best attorneys in town.

Denis Simm's is on the payroll not to represent Officers, but to look for loopholes so that the Chief can wiggle out of.

The Law Department never tried cases, the occasionally gave minimal advice on cases defending an Officer, (because the CIty does have that responsibility if the officer was acting under color of the law) was farmed out to a private firm. (I'm sure Jerry got a kickback) Their idea of handling cases was to settle out of court rather than to try a case.

When an Officer is involved in a deadly force encounter now, his legal counsel is immediately allerted and sometimes arrive at PIU before he does along with FOP reps. This is all paid for by the Officer's as part of their dues, not by Metro Government.

NO, I don't want to depend on Jerry Abramson to provide me an attorney. That is what half my dues go for every year. It is insurance that should anything ever happen to me that I will have the right people defending me, not someone looking our for the Mayor's interests.
