FOP Endorses Kelly Downard for Metro Mayor

the only disaster we will respond to is the jerry being re-elected for another term...

yeah and the police are still using 2 differant radio systems, but the current mayor can donate $ for a arena that we dont need and new parks we dont need. Where are his priorities? Not with the police for sure.

The best endorsement Downard got yesterday was Coleman's support of Abrahmson/White.

They have done nothing but tie the hands of the emergency workers and caused more crime and deaths in this community. Always putting a spin on everything that happens to look good instead of just saying we messed up.

Kelly Downard would be a great mayor for this community. No one should have a "mayor for life". It never brings in new ideas only what the one person feels is best and nothing more. Jerry is working on legacy and nothing more. A ring of parks around the metro area is nice, but how do they plan on keeping the people safe as he keeps forcing officers to leave by not wanting to give them a good contract? He has done nothing for emergency responders except put up smoke and mirrors to make it look like he cares.

i'm a former county police officer and ever since merger the only benefit that i've recieved from it was a closer relationship with my fellow former city brothers, that was the only thing offered to me from ower beloved mayor. don't get me wrong, i'm honor to be working with all these brave men and women of louisville metro police. but when jerry took office my familly and i have not seen any changes in our income due to no raises (cost of living has risen ). my wife pays taxes like every other citizen in this community ...... every public safety employee's (police , fire and ems) familly is suffering and struggling to keep up, thanks to one mans greed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sure 2 radio systems, cars with over 100,000 miles on them, putting cars back into service that have been taken out of service due to safety problems, police stations that have mold and not enough room for the police to work in, selling a training facility and not being able to replace it, more worried about what colors cars, trucks and EMS vehicles are instead of the well being of the workers, having his staff drive around in new SUVs. High crime rate, more people being killed in car crashes and murder than in previous years, higher crime rate. Sure the current mayor has done alot for emergency workers all over the metro area. Lets get Mr. Downard into the mayor's seat for a real change in how things are done in this area.

I would love to cast a vote against Jerry but I don't know enough about Mr. Downard other than he is running against Jerry. I try to use my brain and not be a single issue voter. Where does he stand on the issues? Fairness ordinance, adult businesses etc..

The courier journal pretty much dedicated todays (Saturday) paper to putting down the republican party. It started with Bush, then Fletcher and finished with an editorial about how Kelly Downard is wrong for his comments about getting rid of the chief. Making it sound like it is for racial issues. Then they put the editorial from prof jones about his students comments and how right they were and how wrong everyone else is.........If we want Kelly to be our next mayor we need to work hard at it because jerry's little spin machine is already starting.......

The people of urban Louisville love Jerry and nothing will ever change that, not even his incompetence leading to high crime in the city. Not even his wasting tax dollars to attract some low-paid restaurant and retail jobs that aren't even worth the amount the City pays for extra security downtown. If the people in the east and south ends don't show up in force to vote him out, Louisville Metro will start looking more and more like a gangland ghetto. I guess that's why he hired a Chief from DC.

sure he has a new communication centere that can talk to other jurisdictions, but the fact remains years after merger the former city and former county cannot talk directly to eachother without getting a patch link or changing channels. Why don't we have one system for both departments instead of spending the millions of $$$$ on a system that will be put to rest when metro safe is up and running. All the money in he is spending in this system is going to be for a backup system. When was the last time communications went down completly? This system will never be used and will just collect dust in the future.

Once again jerry is pulling the wool over peoples eyes with smoke and mirrors. He is not a public safety mayor, never has been, never will be. He has done more to hurt public safety than help it. People say how he and rcw have made meighborhoods safer. Look at the murder rate since each of them have been here. Look at the vehicle death rate since each have taken over. The police can only do so much when units are disbanded and shrunk in size. The people in charge are responsible for all the deaths in our community and no amount of smoke and mirrors will cover that.

Louisville Metro PD is a great place to work.....Many Officer's here have no idea about other cities. To the wanna be recruits... This is a great place. NO ONE has any control of how you police your beat EXCEPT YOU. You can police as hard as u want and follow the rules and you will have no problems. Nothing has changed since I started policing 7 years ago. I can lock up as many bad guys as I want, recover as many stolen cars as I want and anything else I think of in my shift. So my car has 121,000 miles.. its a car that works and I have no problems with it.....would I like a new one, sure, but thats life...I'll take my $53,000 and be happy. I will give into this one thing and say my 2% raise this year and 2% next year SUCKED

What the hell does Kelly Doward know about Violent crime? What the hell does he even know about the inner city? I think Robert White has far more credibility in that area than this clown, especially since he worked in D.C.'s public housing which make Louisville worst neighborhoods look like Disney Land. Doward shouldn't even attempt to open his mouth in opposition to Chief White. He's proven nothing to anyone yet.

If you want to be prosecuted and fired for defending yourself against violent felons and want desperately to kiss someone's behind to get promoted, LMPD IS THE DEPARTMENT FOR YOU! You will be handsomely rewarded with 2% raises, the opportunity to drive a car that's unsafe to drive, and be incompetently led by idiots who got their gold badges out of a box of Crackhead Jacks (Louisville's finest new candy). You will always get recognition for your work too...Drug dealers will laugh at you because you're not allowed to arrest them without being suspended! Once the Mayor's new City of Parks is constructed you will have the chance to become a Park Ranger and protect the civil liberties of butt pirates in the publc restrooms. Why am I a stooge because I come to work and work, lock up bad guys and yes I lock up drug dealers also. I don't have to drive by while they "laugh" and enjoy my job and can do as much as I want to do with ZERO PROBLEMS IN 7 YEARS. I follow the rules and have a fun day at work everyday. NO C/O has ever stopped, questioned or even comment on any of the proactive police work me or any of my former platoon mates ever did. SO if that makes me a stooge for being happy, then I am a stooge.

This comment is right. There is a gang problem and he doesn't see it. This mayor is blind to what is going on in this city and it's about time we got someone in to do something about it.

It is past time for a new "Mayor" for Louisville, KY. The one we have can't quite patting himself on the back. He is all for taking care of the things we don't need, but not taking care of things we do need. Instead of having a Mayor who cares about the City, we have Jerry who likes to be in the limelight.
