Homicide Rate Reaches 50

August 19th, 2005 @ 8:31PM (19 years ago)

Until LMPD officers are allowed to do POLICE work the way it should be done, it will continue. Use of todays modern equiptment is fine, but in the OLD days, the slap stick, black-jacks, hard wood nitesticks, did a mighty fine job. Of course there was no ACLU or all the other "bleeding hearts" out there. Then, Chiefs were Chiefs who knew how to handle thugs and the macho crowd. Taking guns off the street does not solve problems. Taking the idiots who are ILLEGALY carrying them off the street does. But a big change in Metro Administration will have to surface first.................k5

Wouldn't it have been easier to just repost the article at the bottom of the page. "3 homicides in a 24 hour period" This is the second time in two weeks.

Hey Jerry! You want to be the 16th largest city in the US, I guess we'll have to have the murder rate to go with it.

James Zambrowski asked Chief White if he felt he was losing control of the city, Chief White became angry. ( From the previous murders)

Maybe instead of a temporary task force with no intelligence base to work off of that is by the way already disbanded until next year we should re-institue the Street Crimes Unit and target the street corners and take the guns off the streets before they are used in murders.

THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE!

The police department doesn't need Street Crimes, or a Violent Crimes reduction task force, or full time SWATT. The police deparment needs to be at full strength or larger. We need 12 Divisions instead of 8. And the district commanders need the personel and resources to take of the problems in their divisions, districts, what ever we call them. The department needs to spend the money and buy cars for all uniform officers, even those on probation. The flex unit detectives need a fleet of cars so they don't get burnt so fast.

Street crimes had some good officers and made some good arrests. It also had some prima donnas and brown nosers. I lost count of the officers in that unit who bragged about drinking on duty, beating people down just because they mouthed off, making a few arrest and then going home for the rest of the night. The psuedo street crimes unit, or task force, that operated in the spring did the same thing. They came out to my area and and locked up a few people for possession of drug paraphernalia and drinking in public, then jacked up a minister and his wife. We had to deal with the complaints while the "task force" declared victory, went home four hours early and got drunk.

But no matter how many officers or how many speciality units or helocopters we get, as long as Abramson is mayor the crime rate will continue to go up and people and businesses will move out of town.

I remember when the chief stated that we don't have a gang problem . I wonder if he has started eating those words yet. While his staff is underpaid he is over paid. Its only going to get worse until we bring in a new mayor and new chiefs and new directors becouse these leaders or lack of leaders need to be replaced. What is going to happen to these people when they get arrested there going to jail and well these inmates are looking forward to jail time its easy time. its going to get worse until we get tough with the scum of louisville.
