LMPD Standoff With Barricaded Murder Suspect

August 19th, 2005 @ 9:56AM (19 years ago)

Police can't prevent domestic violence-related murders and never have been able to because our local courts don't take threats of violence seriously. The smart, rich lawyers don't care if women get killed, as long as they can get more cases and legal fees from the violence their flawed legal process helps create.

What is most interesting is that the suspect fired 20+ rifle and handgun rounds at LMPD officers, and only one officer returned fire. Hmmm?

Some of the officers have told their friends they were to busy taking cover and never had a clear target to return fire. More ominously, some officers said they don't want to be the next Mackenzie Mattingly. They also report the shoddy treatment by the administration of the one officer who did return fire. There are reports circullating of Asst. Chief Winstead and Turner cowering at the scene, and then being hateful and belligerent to the officer who returned fire. Perhaps this officer's bravery is an affront to their cowardice.

I am glad that no officers were hurt and deeply sorry for the family of the woman who was murdered. I am also troubled that officers are afraid to defend themselves. If the officers are afraid to defend themselves, what are they willing to do for me and my family?

Chief White, Asst. Chief Winstead, and Asst. Chief Turner must go. For the safety of all Metro Louisville residents.
