Rehiring LMPD Officers

Louisville does not want laterals. When you put in for a lateral (not sure on spelling), they give you a percentage number for years of experience as for a grading I guess, a four year officer from another department gets a 77%. Then never hears anything else, so you tell me what the problem is.

sorry, but if you think the laterals are the answer you are wrong. The idea is if we are going to hire officers from other areas and they have experience we shouldn't have problems with them. NOT ONE, if we do then someone didn't do a very good job on the backround check. If they mess up here they messed up before and we didn't find it. At least a new officer can just f**k up because they are in a new situation with new powers. You can't say that about a lateral. We hire laterals and give them special numbers to indicate they are lateral (nothing like being special), what ever happened to just being another officer..... This department hasn't even taken care of officers they hired prior to merger with experience and would only take them as new recruits (we don't hire lateral) even though they came from large departments and were ready to go in a couple of weeks. But we will give credit to people who come over as laterals who have never been on the street a day in their life....********** yes........
