RSVP Criminals Please Respond

Well, it only took 2 1/2 years for the chief to wake up an have a pro active approach to crime. Maybe just maybe this is a small step in the right direction.!!

Christopher 2X, you can't have it both ways. You want something done to stop the violence in the community but cry when someything is done. Maybe you are like the Rev. Coleman and just show up for the cameras.

sorry but all the RSVP program is is smoke and mirrors. They want everyone to think they are doing something special when all they are doing is what the courts and prosecutors should be doing when the cases of these felons are back infront of them.

RSVP is a reat start. I hope and pray that Chief White keeps the ball rolling by initiating more and stronger crime innitiatives. Community Policing works with receptive people, not with criminals. A strong emphasis on arrest and good prosecutorial standards, not back door deals, is what this community needs.

Thank God we have a bunch of dedicated Officers from many different agencies that are willing to deal with these criminals.

I wouldn't call it a great job, but I would say it is definitely a step in the right direction.

I just hope RCW doesn't keel over from a heart attack when he finds out the FOP is backing him on this. I don't want RCW to be a martyr, I want to watch Mayor Downard fire the #$^*#$.

Putting parolees in prison for parole violations, what a novel concept for the Jefferson County Courts! Maybe next they can work on putting dangerous felons in prison without even giving them parole. Let be realistic though, it's not like many will get long sentences or that prison does anything to prevent them from doing more crimes when they get out. Prison is nothing but a fitness center and in-service academy for criminals in this state.

We do need a parolee database. All parolees and probationers are technically inmates who've been conditionally allowed out of prison, so why don't they just make them carry inmate ID's that have their release conditions on the back? Or better yet, make them all wear some kind of distinctive hat or shirt. The lawyers might be worried about that kind of thing, so we should let one of Jerry's after-hours buddies design it to make it as fashion-conscious as possible.

Here is a suggestion:

Here's a suggestion - every time a person is put on P/P - the beat officer in the area where they are listed as living gets a copy of the conditions, and those conditions also be made available by MDT and such. That way, if an officer sees "Scumbag Joe" out at 2 a.m., he knows (or can check) and discover that SJ is supposed to be inside by then. Oh, and maybe cross reference a photo of SJ with the file, since those are already in the system for new offenders, anyway.

It'll take some computer memory, but ....

What did happen in court that day? One of the participants in this program is a neighbor of my mom (yeah, I'm thrilled about that) - and he's already out again.

How about a P/P condition that you can't make any babies while you are out? He's got two on the way, and been out right at a year.

Smoke and Mirrors..............................

Smoke: Anything to make this administration appear to want the officers of this department to do proactive policing to the gneral public. Those of us really know that this "task force" was created to give the public a feeling of safety, when in all actuality #1 could care less about how much work they have accomplished in the time that it has been around.

Mirrors:Trying to get officers behind this administration with acts of "do what you gotta do to lock these people up" but you better not get one single complaint. Better not lock up a bad guy who knows how to use the phone to make a complaint....cause its gonna mean days.

Smoke and Mirrors.....already starting and the election year is still a ways off!!!!

P&P Response

This is a good program. Probation & Parole Officers can not be with the offender 24/7. Help from other Police Agencies, friends, treatment groups, church & family have kept many on Probation or Parole from reoffending. Ignoring criminal behavior and hoping it will change has proven not to work. Providing structure, guidance, and direction works for some but not all. We cannot determine how many people are not victims because of this program but ask one of the victims if we have done enough. I have been a Probation & Parole Officer for 14 Years and am not speaking for our Cabinet. A phrase coined by one of my partners "We are wardens without walls". Thank You for your help. Lodge 13,
